I never thought the day would come where I'd have someone representing me that I have less respect for than Patrick Kennedy. Amazingly, Lincoln Chafee (supposedly Republican, RI), has actually made me proud to have Patches Kennedy as a Congressman with this jackass as a Senator. Besides being a Republican in name only, Chafee has now crossed a line where I don't think even the Democrats would want to have him. In a local television inverview, Chafee equates U.S. military action with watching the South Vietnamese execute little girls during Vietnam. I'm pleading with the GOP leadership to boot this guy out of our party. At this point, even if the Senate was 50-50, I'd be glad to give up control just so Chafee can't dishonor the Republican Party any longer. His father might have gone off the Republican reservation at times, but no one could question his support for his country (Secretary of Navy during Vietnam). His son is a disgrace to the family name.

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans would ever "kick" a person out of their party. To the party as a whole, numbers are all that matters.

*You* may be glad to give up control of the Senate because you hate one Republican, but I doubt most of (and possibly any) of his fellow Republican Senators feel the same way.

And by the way, what would you have him do? He obviously characterizes himself as more Republican than Democrat (or just thinks he is more likely to be reelected as a Republican).

There are ways of screwing people without kicking them out of the party per se. For example, Traficant went years without actually being on a committee.
