| #1 Posted on 26.2.03 2140.00 Reposted on: 26.2.10 2142.03 | Hello all!
Back when Feely put out his Top 100 list around the beginning of the year, I thought about movies. Why couldn't the same thing be done for movies, with a less arbitrary system? So, I lazily concocted the Box Office Dominance System. Using the Top 20 weekend gross rankings from Box Office Mojo, I assigned a point total to each {#1 gets 20 points, #2 gets 19...and #20 gets 1 point) and totaled them all up. Behold! Week 1 (really 7, but I got too lazy to actually start before this). Ties are broken through #1 ranking weekends for each film (most gets higher spot) or simply by alphabetical order.
Feedback is welcome.
TW (LW) FILM; Points [#1 Weekends, if any] 1 (-) Chicago; 128 2 (-) Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers; 112 [1] 3 (-) Catch Me If You Can; 101 4 (-) About Schmidt; 93 5 (-) Kangaroo Jack; 90 [1] 6 (-) Just Married; 72 [1] 7 (-) The Recruit; 63 [1] 8 (-) Gangs of New York; 61 9 (-) Final Destination 2; 59 10 (-) The Hours; 59 11 (-) Two Weeks Notice; 59 12 (-) How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days; 57 [1] 13 (-) Darkness Falls; 53 [1] 14 (-) National Security; 52 15 (-) Shanghai Knights; 49 16 (-) Maid In Manhattan; 45 17 (-) Daredevil; 40 [2] 18 (-) Biker Boyz; 39 19 (-) My Big Fat Greek Wedding; 36 20 (-) Antwone Fisher; 35
Next Update; Monday or Tuesday next week.

| #4 Posted on 27.2.03 1652.40 Reposted on: 27.2.10 1652.51 | Basically, I started with the first weekend of 2003 and will continue onwards until the 52nd weekend is finished. Right now, these are the tallies for the first 7 weeks.
How Points Are Gotten: The film that makes the most money on the weekend (i.e., finishes in first place on the weekend gross charts) is awarded 20 points. Second place gets 19, 3rd gets 18, 4th gets 17, 5th gets 16, 6th gets 15, 7th gets 14, 8th gets 13, 9th gets 12, 10th gets 11, 11th gets 10, 12th gets 9, 13th gets 8, 14th gets 7, 15th gets 6, 16th gets 5, 17th gets 4, 18th gets 3, 19th gets 2, and the 20th ranking movie based on domestic grosses for the weekend gets 1 point.
Points are tallied up and the leaders are reported here.
Chicago [1st] is at the top due to sticking in the top 5 since just about the start of the year. The Two Towers [2nd] and Catch Me If You Can [3rd] both sank a bit after starting the year at #1 & #2 respectively. Daredevil [#17] is riding off back-to-back 20 point weekends. If it dips to second or third, it could jump into the top 10. Kangaroo Jack [#5] being this high is because of (1) Children loving stupid animal movies and (2) Jerry Bruckheimer's pact with Satan.
