| #1 Posted on 10.2.03 1925.04 Reposted on: 10.2.10 1927.18 | Hey everybody! It's the disputed Wienerboard movie junkie here with an idea: Let's have an unofficial "Guess The Oscar Nominations" contest. Guess up to 5 in each category. For every nomination correctly guessed, you get a point. Most points wins bragging rights. Contest unofficially closes once the Oscar nominations are announced tomorrow morning at 5:30 am PST.
MY PICKS:
Best Picture: Chicago, The Hours, Gangs of New York, The Two Towers and Adaptation Best Actor: Jack Nicholson [About Schmidt], Daniel Day-Lewis [Gangs of NY], Richard Gere [Chicago], Adrien Brody [The Pianist] and Michael Caine [The Quiet American] Best Actress: Nicole Kidman [The Hours], Julianne Moore [Far From Heaven], Diane Lane [Unfaithful], Renee Zelwegger [Chicago] and Meryl Streep [The Hours] Best Supporting Actor: Chris Cooper [Adaptation], John C. Reilly [Chicago], Paul Newman [Road To Perdition], Dennis Quaid [Far From Heaven] and Christopher Walken [Catch Me If You Can] Best Supporting Actress: Kathy Bates [About Schmidt], Catherine Zeta-Jones [Chicago], Meryl Streep [Adaptation], Julianne Moore [The Hours[ and Queen Latifah [Chicago] Best Director: Peter Jackson [The Two Towers], Steven Spielberg [Minority Report], Rob Marshall [Chicago], Stephen Daldry [The Hours] and Martin Scorsese [Gangs of NY] Adapted Screenplay: Charlie & Donald Kaufman [Adaptation], David Hare [The Hours], Alexander Payne & Jim Taylor [About Schmidt], Bill Condon [Chicago] and Peter Jackson, Phillpa Boyens & Fran Walsh [The Two Towers] Original Screenplay: Nia Vardalos [My Big Fat Greek Wedding], Michael Moore [Bowling For Columbine], Jay Cocks, Steve Zaillian & Ken Lonergan [Gangs of NY], Alfonso & Carlos Cuaron [Y Tu Mama Tambien] and Todd Haynes [Far From Heaven]
OTHERS Animated: Spirited Away Documentary: Bowling For Columbine
Adaptation gets the Best Pic nod, leaving Cage out to dry in the Actor race. About Schmidt also loses a B.P. spot due to the acting & script recognition. Polanski & the Pianist largely ignored, leaving Adrien Brody getting a nod for Best Actor (and well deserved, too). Promote this thread! | | Big Bad

I think we had this debate before, but I don't think Spirited Away is eligible for the awards, either it being released in Japan in 2001 or it not being submitted as Japan's entry for Foreign Film. I could be wrong. I HOPE I'm wriong. | Manding0

| #4 Posted on 12.2.03 1908.12 Reposted on: 12.2.10 1913.37 | Spirited Away can get the nod since its being released (although in limited release) throughout America this year. They must really be hurting for good animated flicks because Spirit (that one about the horse) and Treasure Island were also included for the nominations.
Meh... I guess they've already announced the finalists? | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
