Sisters Suing Southwest Over 'Racist Rhyme' -- Click Here

This is one of the most rediculous things I've ever heard.

First of all, I find it amazing that "eennie meenie minie moe..." was part of a racist rhyme MANY YEARS AGO. If it actually was, ok then, whatever, so it was. According to the plaintiffs, the rhyme pre-dates the civil rights movement. So how in the world is a 22 year old flight attendant going to know anything that predates her by many decades, unless she grew up in a racist household? It boggles my mind: if you grew up in a racist-poem free house, how are you supposed to know which poems are racist or have roots in racism?

I remember saying 'catch a tiger by his toe' at the playground as a kid. So now they are trying to say that the poem has racist roots and should never be said? Well how IN THE HELL are you gonna pick kids for dodgeball!! (shit, I forgot, dodge ball is out cause it's hurts kids' feelings.)

The racist version was pretty well known where I'm from and banned from our school. Ever inventive little kiddies that we were we replaced it with such classics as:

"it, dit, dog shit.
you, are, not, it"

There was also one about mothers punching each other on the nose which was followed by speculation of the colour of the ensuing blood but the clever kids knew how to always win that.

Back on topic however, even being aware of the racist version I cant understand how in the name of god these people were offended. It was a joke for christs sakes.

I can totally understand that they're feeling alienated however because they're clearly f~*king freaks and would feel out of place in any decent society.

This makes perfect sense in todays world...feelings matter not actions.

These days you'll be far more vilified for something you say, than someone who actually commits a "bad" action.

As our skins get thinner & thinner, and our collective conscience gets shallower & shallower, words become greater than deeds. Sucks doesn't it?

Well, why don't we wait until the courts decide this one until we get all indignant about the state of the America.

In this country, you can sue about absolutely anything. It's just the way our system works. I'm not surprised this person is suing now, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Now, if this person actually wins, then it's a cause for alarm.

Wow, I always thought it was "catch a tiger by the toe."

I'd heard it the other way when I was in school, but I had just chalked that up to living in Louisiana.

If this case takes longer to get thrown out than the guy who sued McDonald's for making his kid fat, there is no justice in the world. But like MoeGates said, there's really no problem unless they win. I mean, look at it. The attendant in question didn't even say the offensive part.

EDIT: I waste my 1000th post on this? -_-

OMG, this is just too stupid. Some people really need to chill-out and become less paranoid.

I, too, was unaware of the "alternative" wording of the rhyme 'til I was an adolescent. At which point I wondered why you'd grab someone by the toe.

Anyway, this is a stupid lawsuit. It should be thrown out. People should lighten-up.

I have heard the racist version, but I always thought it really was "catch a tiger by the toe", and that was just some stupid redneck attempt at "humor".

If they win this case, you've got cause for alarm, but they *have* no case, so don't worry about it.

Personally, I'd like proof that the racist version predated the non-racist version. I've heard sayings before that originally had no racist leanings given new "color" by bigots.

As for the two sisters - get a hold of yourselves. Not every single word spoken in the world is about you. If you believe that, the psychiatrists would say you suffer from a "delusion of reference".

Using the potato as a reference could be construed as mocking the Irish who died in the Irish Potato Famine of the 1840's. Next thing you'll know, someone would mock the Irish by saying they are Fighting.

The problem is that a lot of cases that "have no case" have won in recent years, i.e. The Pledge of Allegiance in the 9th circuit, most tobacco lawsuits, the infamous McDonalds suit, etc.

Ummm... tobacco lawsuits have no case? Some of those settlements have been excessive, I'll grant you, but you're comparing apples and oranges. Yes, the "racist rhyme" suit is frivolous, but it's not a product designed to kill people.

And you can bet that the Irish would be up in arms if they had a team called the Boston Micks, or the New York Wops for Italians or the Louisiana Coon Asses for Cajuns, so don't cry when people take issue with the Washington Redskins.

Everything isn't necessarily PC run amok, no matter how many isolated stories you pull out.

Cigarettes aren't designed to kill people either. People have been smoking tobacco for hundreds of years for the purpose of relaxation and enjoyment. The suits have no merit because nobody forced the cigarette into your hand in the first place. I'm not saying the tobacco companies are the guys in the white hats here, because obviosuly they did some fucked up stuff in regards to additives and cover-ups. But the suits place all blame for people smoking on tobacco companies when the individual had to make the decision for themselves whether or not to light up.

The tobacco lawsuits stem from a period before warning labels were put onto the packages, and when the tobacco executives outright lied about the dangerous nature of cigarette smoking. I agree that some of the fines are excessive, but it's not like these are people who just picked up a pack last week.

As far as the McDonalds case goes, please Click Here. It honestly helps to have some idea what you're talking about.

Granted, no one makes people smoke four packs a day of Marlboro reds. But suing the makers of that product after a user dies is a lot less frivolous than two crybabies suing over a rhyme.

True. That doesn't, however, mean the case does not have merit.

Why, most of the liberals here don't.

Anyhoo, regarding the McDonalds case I read your link so I guess I need to respond point-by-point.

McFact # 1: That is not a "problem" with the way they make their coffee. Some people make it hotter. So what?

McFact # 2: Again, so what? I spill hot water on myslef I'm going to be in bad shape. I don't need to consult a "burn expert" to tell me that hot shit burns you.

McFact # 3: While that does in fact suck, she was dirving a car at the time. Doesn't it strike you as mildly retarted to drive with a cup of hot liquid betwen your thighs? Or does personal responsibility here not matter?

McFact # 4: Again, personal responsibility. If I fall down a flight of steps at a mall and break my neck because I was walking down the steps on my hands doesn't mean that the mall should pay for my medical costs.

McFact # 5: Common sense people. Hot Coffee Burns. It's not like somebody will be told hot liquids burns and scream "HOLY SHIT MR. WIZARD!!!" like it's the first time they've heard it.

McFact # 6: How can McDonald's engage in willful, reckless, malicious, or wanton conduct when the women drove with coffee between her legs. It 'aint like they put it there.

McFact # 7: True, it was not well publicized. Still ridiculous.

McFact # 8: The facts in this 2nd case aren't even presented; how was she handling the coffee.

Need I also point out that the homepage for this lawfirm produly boasts that they are "medical malpractice, wrongful death, auto accident and personal injury attorneys and lawyers dedicated to vigorously representing the injured." I.E. Ambulance chasers.

After a review of these alleged facts, the McDonalds case still stands up as an shameful example of our litigious society and demeans the merits of those medical malpracitce and liability cases that are credible and should be pursued.

Sure hot coffee burns, but it damn well shouldn't result in skin grafts. If you ran a company that had had over 700 complaints about this would you not maybe think about doing something?

Their own quality control manager admitted that most people wouldn't be aware that the coffee was hot enough to cause such severe injuries so quickly. You cant really use the excuse of personal responsibility because people weren't aware of how dangerous McD's coffee was, and thus clearly didnt take as much care when handling it.

If you had a glass of iced juice between your legs yeah you'd know it would be chilly on the nether regions if it spilled, but if the liquid was so damned cold that you were hospitalised I'm pretty sure you'd be complaining to someone.
