Is there an official time frame for flying the flag at half mast? I noticed on the way home from work that 2 govt. agencies flew the flag in separate ways...one at half mast and the other at full mast.

Is this up to each individual entity or is there a uniform time frame?

Usually when flags are ordered at half mast, there is a specific time-frame named. I think for the shuttle, it was 6 days. It depends on the importance of the memorial.

Thanks...That was my question. The flag is ordered by the government then to fly at half mast depending upon the situation? Makes sense on the 6 day time frame.

I'm a new citizen...just never was sure of the rules/etiquette.

Here's a flag etiquette website. Basically, the flag flies at half staff until the President (or the governor of your state) decide to rescind the order.

I say this in all sincerity...

God Bless the USA for the way it treats and respects its flag. If only we Canadians had that reverance and patriotism...
