Last week, they named Iraq as head of the UN's Disarmament Committee, which you may have missed (I know in the Dallas Morning News, it was pretty buried and I almost missed it).
Sorry, I screwed up the links, see Bizzle's post below.

Now wouldn't it be even funnier if Iraq was in the Security Council right about now? "We would now like to vote for bombing Iraq.." "NONONONONONONONO!!"

| #5 Posted on 9.2.03 2248.18 Reposted on: 9.2.10 2255.12 | | Ah ... the good old UN, you can't make this stuff up. It's true, most heads of committees do rotate, such as the Disarmament Committee, which Iraq will now led with dutiful and sound leadership and reason. However, the head of the UN's Human Rights Commission goes by rotation to each of the world region's as recognized by the UN. This year it was the African region's turn, and Libya was nominated. There was a secret ballot held (at the urging of the US) and the Libyian nominee was elected by 33 votes in favor (Cuba, Sudan, and other champions of human rights were in favor), 3 opposed, and 17 abstentions (most of these coming from those brave Europeans). A great chance to make the UN appear somewhat concerned with morality was lost ... oh well ... do they still have those cool Orange UNICEF boxes at Halloween? Or is that just a Canadian thing? | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
