| #1 Posted on 30.1.03 1455.11 Reposted on: 30.1.10 1456.59 | I just had to comment after checking out OO today, because I am amazed at the disparity in quality that can be found on one site. (no links, you all know where these are)
The Obtuse Angle column about the lack of a need for secondary belts is a damn good column. But then Jeb's column is usually a good bet to be a solid read, and always a highlight of that site. I'm glad he is part of our little community here.
This is however counterbalanced by the single worst read out there...The Smarkies. It's one thing to make a cut and paste column filled with generalizations about how every single person who doesn't agree with everything WWE does is obviously some sort of puro geek who jacks off to tapes of Benoit as Pegasus Kid. However to do a column lamenting such geekiness, and then to end it with a rant about the lack of accuracy in D-Lo's statement about black comic book heroes...let me repeat that. He ends a column complaining about excessive picking things apart and which is generally devoted to mocking geeky fans, with a list of comic book characters!!! I shall now call him The Pot, and lament his complaints about the Kettle. | Promote this thread! | | rspwfaq

(I like the Satire and Obtuse Angle, but I don't need to go there to read them.) Kyle posts so infrequently I forgot he still writes a column. He is sometimes funny and controversial, but I thought his new column was lame.

Wait - KYLE MAXWELL DOESN'T LIKE AUSTIN?!?!?
I AM SHOCKED
IIRC, I fell afoul of Kyle when I said something about how awesome Austin was and gave a big sermon in one of my RAW reports about it...I'd look it up if I were REALLY bored but I've already spent too much time in this thread. ;-)
Oh, and Scott, you just can't - you *can't* fall into the trap of reading EVERY column JUST because your name might happend to end up in it, because that's a slow road to insanity....hold on | Wolfram J. Paulovich

| #10 Posted on 30.1.03 2223.54 Reposted on: 30.1.10 2224.57 | Thanks for the compliments, guys; they're always appreciated. As for Kyle.... I gave up trying to defend the editions of the Smarkies that I liked. I didn't like this one; too thin on content. And I think some of the offensiveness of the Smarkies would wear off if it was a weekly deal. Coming out of the blue, once every three-to-six weeks, as it does, makes it seem as if each addition is a special occasion. Because of that, the negativity gets amplified, and people internalize the bad more.
I guess I brought my paragraph around to defending the Smarkies again, so I'll quit now. Suffice it to say, that when they're good, they're a real treat for me. Even if it is cut-and-paste, the "IWC" does need as many shots taken at it as it can get. At least the shots in the Smarkies aren't whole fake conversations or made-up facts. I'd definitely better quit now, before this becomes a mess of "IWC" bashing back and forth. Yipes. | CRZ

| #14 Posted on 31.1.03 1614.56 Reposted on: 31.1.10 1618.34 | I'm with Z here. *I* could write The Smarkies. Cubs Fan could write the Smarkies. "The Shooter" Dean Malenko could write The Smarkies. Hell, even motherfucking LIMA TIME could write The Smarkies. It's nice to be able to say, "Hey, the guy who formed ITVR has a column on Online Onslaught," and The Smarkies does have its moments, and by that I mean making fun of the fan-posted show reviews on the Torch. Problem is, I don't particularly like taking potshots at other people just for the sake of taking potshots at other people. Not to say I don't feel the same way about some of the people he Kyle writes about. Hell, I *really* don't like Scott Keith, but I do read him. Why? Because he has an opinion, and I *really* like to know other people's opinions, whether I agree with them or not. It's just my thing. That being said, I may not like Scott Keith but I don't devote a column on a major wrestling site to my feelings about him because, well, that would be a waste of bandwidth. And to call Keith a hypocrite when you stage a mass exodus from CRZ's board under the pretense that Z is a control freak and then doing the same thing to the board you created as a place for relaxed, civilized, community-like wrestling discussion is, well, a tad bit hypocritical. | ges7184

| #15 Posted on 31.1.03 1833.27 Reposted on: 31.1.10 1834.01 | I enjoy the Smarkies myself, so he has at least one reader. Of course, I don't look at it from a "column difficulty" standpoint (probably because I don't write a column). If it entertains me, I read. If not, I don't.
I do notice that for an apparently worthless column, I'm seeing a lot of the IWC heavy hitters weighing in here.
spf, you are exactly right though with your last comments. Maybe he will award himself a Smarkie. | Waxy
