Not only has the movie received a majority of positive reviews, but c'mon -- Chuck Barris is an f'ing visionary, the book is reportedly a hoot, and the nostalgia rush from seeing Gene Gene the Dancing Machine again ALONE will be worth my $8.50.
I'm really really really hoping this leads to a Gong Show compilation DVD or something, because I'd buy that mother in a heartbeat...

Part of the reason why GSN isn't airing Gong as much is due to the music fees Sony and Liberty have to pay to air the shows. Might be the same reason why you haven't seen any Name That Tune on there, either.
The Gong Show not only started "reality TV," but it's got some of the best 70's comedy around. The rehash for syndication sucked, and Extreme Gong sucked. The WB needs to do what NBC is doing with Deal (actually using someone from the original) to even have a chance.
But Chuckie Baby is God. Gene Patton, btw, was on the NBC tech staff doing lights when I saw Carson in '88. Very nice man, and a true mark-out moment for me as a game show fan. | odessasteps

Great, great movie.
If you didn't know it, you'd think Soderbergh directed it.

Taped it, saw Gene Gene the Dancing Machine, proceeded to mark out, rewind, see Gene Gene again...and repeat about 800 times. So, what're YOU doing with your free time? | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
