I was diggin the Angle/Benoit match, and the Rumble itself was pretty good until it got predictable at the end, but man, Steiner/HHH was the Drizzling Shits. Moves I saw used in this match: Belly to Belly Suplex, and, um, a Slingshot to the Turnbuckle. Boo these men.

There is gonna be a frightening amount of backlash on the web about Trips losing by DQ. I'm warning myself right now...I was kinda sad the main events were starting within the first hour...but Angle/Benoit and the Rumble made it a solid 2nd half. The Benoit Standing O was fucking classic. God bless those guys - that match was outstanding.

Rumble was predictable as soon as Booker was out. Then it was down to Lesnar and about 10 guys ya knew weren't gonna win it. It was a good match though - almost every entrant had history with somebody already in the ring.

NOTES:

What the fuck was up with Shawn's elimination?? That was seriously messed up booking. Get bloodied, get your ass kicked, get eliminated? Ouch.

Why was Triple H in red, and why was Steiner wearing a Kurt Angle T-shirt logo on his pants??? (the red white and blue "1" - I swear that was on an Angle shirt not too long ago)

I thought it was a good PPV, Steiner - HHH was just about bearable, Angle - Benoit was a ***** classic and the start of the rumble was entertaining until the usual stuff b4 the end. Gutted Jericho didn't win he looked like he was going to do it, but it was Brock. Roll on Brock - Angle at WM.

Steiner can't get another shot at the title. No one is gonna want to see that piece of crap again. The finish was the right finish because there's no way in hell Steiner can carry the ball. As bad as HHH is compared to his former self, he's way better then Steiner at this point.

Steiner can still be useful to job to a younger guy now but I don't see him lasting very long after that showing.

Steiner/HHH was perfectly placed on the card. They got it out of the way and probably could have followed it with two gerbils humping and it would have been more interesting...but they followed it with Angle/Benoit which was awesome and which the crowd was starving for. And they ate it up.

Good Rumble. Probably the worst part was no surprises, it was pretty predictable (we called about half the entrants and the winner) but fun nonetheless.

Nice to see the belts on the Dudley's again but I see this turning into a big cluster with a rematch or reversal of the titles on RAW.

Overall? Pretty good show, better than it could have turned out. Show/Lesnar was quick and painless. Dudz/Regal and Storm was a lot better than I'd expected it to be. Torrie/Dawn Marie ... well, whatever.

Triple H/Steiner was dreadful, and this time it wasn't Triple H's fault (although he was as plodding on offense as he always is these days). Steiner looked like crap, even with Triple H bumping harder for him than he's bumped for anyone in a long while -- and yes, I include HBK in that. If they're hanging their hopes on a rematch at No Way Out, they better have a Plan B. That botched Tiger Driver of Steiner's was particularly ugly. The match story, at least, was interesting, but the work wasn't up to it.

(And no, I'm not outraged at the DQ ending, because that pales next to the general shittiness of Steiner. This is one case where I'd actually have been happy to see Trips go over clean because it would hold out hope that Steiner would just go away again.)

Benoit/Angle was, as always, terrific. Not as mat-intensive as their usual stuff for most of the way, except near the end when they went nuts with reversals. Even though Benoit tapped out clean, he definitely didn't come out looking second-rate.

The Rumble itself was better than last year's but not quite as good as 2001's, I thought. It started strong, but slowed down considerably once the ring started getting real crowded and they got into the pattern of each new guy running in and doing his spots, and then everyone just milling around waiting for the next person. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of people just got lost in the ruck. Matt Hardy, Shannon Moore, and Chris Nowinski were hilarious, at least, and the Jericho/HBK feud is looking prime for No Way Out.

And so much for all the talk that the Undertaker would be coming back as the Dead Man. He's just the same ol' Taker. Ah well.

First off, I hope Torchslasher remembers our little wager. I await his new signature quote, as stipulated here

Benoit and Angle was just off the charts, and if I didn't know better I would say the crowd was far more amped for that match than HHH/Steiner. I must have of course been hearing things, since those fabled marks all love HHH matches and only net geeks like Benoit or Angle.

Shannon Moore wins the Royal Rumble MVP award from me. He almost single-handedly made that match worth watching with his devoted MF'ery.

I am trying not to ponder the ramifications of Dawn Marie saying the disturbing words "this isn't over." as she walked away tonight. God help us all if this angle continues to drag on.

Show vs. Brock: Good for what it was. I bet Brock's back is killing him.

Dudleys vs. Storm and Regal: Again, good for what it was. Not sure what to do with the Dudleys now. I sure as hell didn't pick Storm/Regal as transition champs. I actually hope the feud continues.

Dawn Marie Wilson(YES!!!) vs. Torrie Wilson: Eh, wasn't horrible like it could have been. Dawn actually tried. Torrie's a waste, though. Dawn actually carried her through the match. Weird.

TripleH vs. Steiner: Was going good until Steiner messed up that Tiger Driver. Needed more moves than the belly to belly suplexes. But it wasn't horrible. TripleH's change of tights was a pleasant surprise. I'm sure there will be a rematch.

Angle vs. Benoit: Absolutley amazing. Really. I like how in each match these guys have with each other, it's a different story. Some matches involve more matwork. Some involve more submissions. This one was flat out wrestling, WWE style. Benoit's Standing O was well deserved.

Rumble: Very exciting until it got down until the end. Then you could see Brock's win a mile ahead. And HBK getting eliminated out of the gate blew goats. I expected the final 3 or four to be RVD, HBK, Jericho, and Brock. That would have been more exciting than Kane, Batista, 'Taker, and Brock. Oh well. Brock vs. Angle, here we come.

I dunno about that. Steiner won after all. According to the stipulations stated there, you'd both have to have each other's names in each other's signature. After all, Steiner won, but HHH retained the belt.

And Maniacal Clown beat me to the punch.

Jericho bloodletting Michaels and eliminating him was a great way to begin the Rumble. It established Jericho as being mad hungry again, and showed the effectiveness of the Chrisses' tricking Michaels and the rest of us.

The Royal Rumble is, by far, my favorite PPV of the year. Probably because the main event has (for the most part) remained untampered with, unlike Survivor Series.
Anyway, having spent most of my twenties drooling over Shawn Michaels, I was crushed to see him out first. What a horrible showing! I knew he wasn't going to win, but to perform THAT poorly? How sad. Although I knew Brock was going to take it all, I really wanted Kane to win. Maybe next year, big guy.

I hope some of you out there got choked up as well when they cut out of the promo really quickly so we could see Benoit's standing O. (That way I won't feel like such a *girl*. )That was a fantastic tribute to a great wrestler after an amazing match. I could watch Angle and Benoit wrestle at every PPV and never get tired of them.

I hate Torrie and Dawn Marie. DM carried the match, IMO. I did giggle at her mourning veil. Very Jackie Kennedy. Did you catch Taz cough after he said Dawn Marie's in her early 20s? Yeah...right...whatever.

HHH/Steiner was horrible. How do I know this? During the match, I started to think about what I had to accomplish at work tomorrow. I even took out my Palm Pilot and checked a few things. Then I took the dog out. I don't think I ever saw Trips in red tights before. Nice change.

And here I was, jacked up for the return of old school Undertaker, and I get the Underbiker back? I wanted funeral dirges and bells tolling and druids bearing torches. Boo, hiss. (Remember when UT used to send funeral wreaths to the matches of the person he was feuding with? THAT's the stuff I like.)

I missed the first two matches, and sadly, picked up at the Dawn Marie/Tori match. But hey it did have the line of the night.
*Fans chanting boring*

Tazz: (Referring to Al WIlson) Torrie Wilson must find this match painful!

Cole: Yeah, and so does the crowd!

Well, it was a good delivery anyways!

HHH vs. Steiner was bad, slow, and just well bad. Steiner is so damn limited, that was made more clear tonight For once I can say, I am glad HHH didn't do the job! Notice how they focused on everything but the in ring action. I found myself more interested in Natchs Sports jacket. So did the crowd!

Benoit vs. Angel- These two kids are pretty good rasslers. Wonderful, Wonderful match. Glad they gave them 25 minutes, and put them after HHH/Scotty. The reversals were just outstanding. The ending clean! No high spots, no tables, no chairs, no bared wire, no half naked woman prancing around at ringside. Just two awesome workers busting ass! See Vinny, WRESTLING still can sell in this day and age. The big news here is the Standing ovation Benoit got!!!! Got to be the biggest reaction Benoit has ever got in WWF/E that I can recall. I hope the brass heard it. But, For some reason I got a notion Triple H was backstage with earplugs on a sandwich tray.

The Rumble: It was predictable, old school rumble, that harkens back to the days when Hogan would take it every year. That is, the big guys in the end, throwing everyone out. This is even consistent with Jericho, who was the man tonight, as the obligatory lightweight heel that stays in forever. I didn't like HBK getting tossed out so early, and I didn't like Jericho getting tossed out in the manner he did. But in retrospect it makes sense. For it was during the part of the rumble that lingered, and will stick out more! Better then mixing them with Taker, Kane, and Brock right? That may have preceptually backlashed. Plus HBK is still hurting! Hopefully they keep this feud going to wrestlemaina, without cheapening with a stupid match NWO cause that will dillute it. They got something good here! Give us the big payoff, Save Jericho's Carrer!

Booker T's impact, or lack thereof, was surprising. Jamal and Matt Hardy must have been in there for 20 minutes, which was also surprising.

Was it just me, or did they switch the entrance times about 5 or 6 times during the match? Towards the end, the que seemed to be, throw a guy out. Bam, 10 seconds on the clock. Reminded me of my Video Games!

I agree Angle/Benoit was good, but there's really not much they can do that we haven't seen before. I'll now prepare for all the so-called "true wrestling fans" to jump on me for saying that. It was a good match, but it's been done a zillion times. I wish they wouldn't wrestle every other week on Smackdown, it would have made this match something truly excellent.

Show and Lesnar was good for what it's worth. Always nice to see Show get thrown around.

Rumble match was good, it pretty much included everything on a standard Royal Rumble checklist - a surprise having HBK eliminated first, a nod to Rumble history with Maven trying to do the same thing he did last year to Undertaker, not one but TWO goofy heels weaseling their way out of elimination (Nowinski and V1), someone coming back and eliminating the person who eliminated them earlier (HBK/Jericho), a tag team working together (Team Angle), another tag team teasing a break-up (Kane & RVD), a "they were in the ring together but they didn't make contact because we're saving that match for later" moment between Lesnar and Batista, and a fast elimination for a loser (B2).

I'm not a huge Steiner fan, but I wanted to hurt the Boston fans badly. Booing HHH's opponent is only going to inflate the HHH ego more. Do not do that.

And poop on Undertaker still using the biker gimmick. Poop on it.

*Edit*

Oh yeah - highlight of the entire show? After Lesnar is in, Albert knocks him down in the corner, then runs and boots Batista in the face and yells "SON OF A BITCH!" for absolutely NO reason. I'm going to vidcap that in a little while.

Hmmm, we seem to have an issue here. Steiner did win after all (thanks for the backup Mr. Clown and Mr. 05), but HHH did keep the belt. I propose that we chicken out on a clean finish to this (just like a certain World's Title match the WWE screwed us on) and just call it even. I leave it up to you Spf.

As for the BPP/HHH match, I just finished watching it a second time. I didn't have quite the amount of anger and disgust as I first did, but the nicest thing to call the match was "slow" and "plodding." Even HHH couldn't cover up Steiner getting blown up mere minutes into the match (and all Steiner was doing was punching, so I don't see how he could have been so tired). HHH always needed to be carried, and tonight proved that he can't really carry his opponents.

I hope they pull a Kronik with Steiner. That is all.

Good show, my friends and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Angle and Benoit are wrestling gods and delivered once again. GREAT near finishes. We all knew that Benoit would probably job, but he's proven himself as a main eventer and deserves a run with the belt. Angle is amazing.

I enjoyed the Rumble. Until the hosses took over. For once, I was glad that Taker was there to no-sell Bautista's offense and eliminate him. Brock's win was pretty anti-climatic, while still kissing Taker's ass. The beginning was VERY strong, with all the great Smackdown workers taking charge. Nice set-up to a Jericho/HBK match.

ON THE OTHER HAND... HHH and Steiner was an abortion. Steiner is slow and old, and HHH is slow and not over, no matter how many legends they feed to him. Seriously, that guy is NOT over, despite all the notches in his gunbelt, the fans still aren't responding to him. This match might as well have been Buff Bagwell and Booker T in Tacoma. Belly to belly suplexes? I'd rather watch Benoit and Angle throw them, because they don't huff and puff and take 5 minutes to recover from a spot. BOTH of these guys are worthless.

Well, as we know stipulations were meant to be broken. This is the Wrestling folder we're talking about here.

On topic, Maven is the man. He somehow gets the highlight of the Royal Rumble for a second straight year. Kudos to he and Chris Nowinski for giving some comedy to the festivities.
