Since it is 1995 all over again(great year to steal from Vince), does this mean a big, fat, talentless stiff is in prime position for King of the Ring and a SummerSlam Main Event? Forget Uncle Eric, this might be the year of Mark Henry. | It's False

| #7 Posted on 11.1.03 1452.49 Reposted on: 11.1.10 1453.03 | I got say I doubt that this is going to happen. It is a "rumor," nothing more. I will use the Shawn Michaels/Jericho confrontation for proof. Everyone got on Michaels because he said that he went the whole "60 minutes," when it was a lot less than that. I don't think the guy is an idiot, and he KNEW that. I think he was given that, because that whole exchange, from a writes standpoint, was exposition. Anyone who did NOT know what the Royal Rumble is, they do now. The WWE may be great at forgetting things week to week, but that seemed like a major set-up point and I do not think they will change anything....

| #11 Posted on 11.1.03 1605.44 Reposted on: 11.1.10 1606.54 | Well it does make sense. The year Shawn "went the hour" it WAS a 1-minute interval situation. It was changed that year to protect him. It changes every year. It's always revolved around 60 seconds, to 90 seconds, to the full two minutes. I'd say 90 seconds would be the best format this year because most of the roster isn't over enough to sustain heat in this match for a full hour. Honestly, Spike's entrance is NOT going to entertain people for a full two minutes before Tommy Dreamer comes out flanked by B2.
This year's edition won't have Austin, Rock, Angle, Benoit, Triple H, Steiner, Hogan, or anyone who has been pushed as a top hand during the last 12 months. Sorry, but I think shortening this root canal of a match (on paper, at least) is totally valid. | oldschoolhero

| #12 Posted on 11.1.03 1744.02 Reposted on: 11.1.10 1744.56 | I'd imagine this s their way of making the Rumble more micard-friendly. A 40-minute match is a Hell of a lot easier to place in the middle of the show than a 70-minute one, which means they could plausibly put BOTH World Title matches on afterwards and not have to worry about overrunning or anything. But yes, one-minute intervals do suck-although they rarely ever stick to accurate timekeeping during the Rumble anyway. | ekedolphin

I fully believe that 90-second intervals would be better, but so what? It's not like they fill the ring with 30 guys, then start the match. This can help "level the field" to the casual fan, making it seem like Jericho, I mean the poor sap who draws number one, has a better chance of winning. | The Great Thomas

| #16 Posted on 12.1.03 2106.18 Reposted on: 12.1.10 2109.08 | Gugs: There's also the small chance that Jericho will challenge Shawn into duplicating his feat, and Shawn will come in #1 and last 'till almost the end only to be eliminated by Jericho. That would be a more interesting buildup to a Wrestlemania blowoff, and it would work better since we know Jericho is going to job there - so why not give him a moment or two in the spotlight?
Plus, it would fit better with the Federation's DUMBASS decision to go 60 seconds this year. Shawn would need it to go the whole match - Jericho definitely wouldn't.

For the record, I think they will use the more frequent entries to clog up the ring once or twice (before the six-man, five-man, four-man end) and provide some teases of alliances and break-ups. The Rumble has always been a giant stew of potential. I'm interested to see what happens. |
