Nice column today, Michaelangelo. I think you certainly made the right call by ending this so-called feud. By accepting a part of the responsibility for this incident, it shows you to be a well-intentioned man.

And thanks again for an excellent column. Keep 'em coming!

Mr. M, "You use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore."

Great column, and I agree with you on the matches.

BUT ... if the crowd is chanting along with a catchphrase,
isn't that, well, a good thing?

Keep them coming,

It is as long as it's appropriate. I take issue with the mindless crowd chanting "What?" to every single promo going on in the ring. Austin and Angle are really the only ones who are playing into that whole fad right now and they use it to enhance their mic time.

HHH, Jericho, UT, Rocky, Flair, and Vince McMahon are doing their own things and injecting "What?" into every pause is not just annoying, it's mildly insulting, or at least that's the way I see it.

But hey, you know me. Molehills become mountains...or so I am told.

Vince kind of plays off of it, too, with his whole "I hate that word!" thing he has going on. Other than him, though, I can see why you wouldn't want the crowd saying it during anyone else's promos. Of course, though, maybe them saying it isn't a bad thing, it's.... A GOOD THING. Ya see, by having the crowd mindlessly chanting "What?" whenever they get a little bored, it FORCES the person on the mic to give a better, more entertaining promo. I think this is definately the case with Jericho in recent weeks, especially in the case of taht bitchin' promo he gave right before the Rumble.

I wonder if Nash will try and kill the whole What shebang with a quick "Homosayswhat?" "Assholesayswhat?"

If not, somebody should ;-)

Yeah, but if Nash does that, I might like him then, and the internet has been telling me for the last month that he's no good for the business anymore What ever will I do then?

BAD: Doesn't JR remember that this guy beat the snot out of him a few months ago? He's eating Austin's shit and calling it ice cream. That's the new WWF, let's pretend that our fans don't remember anything that happened before the last PPV.

My reply:

No, that's pro wrestling, and that's the way it's been ever since angles and feuds were invented. When somebody turns face, all their previous misdeeds are forgotten and it's like they never happened. I see people attacking the WWF for this kind of stuff over and over again, but it's no different than what any wrestling promtion has been doing for decades People who were enemies months ago are the best of friends, and vice versa.

Don't mean to come off harsh on what is a good column, I just get tired of the criticism of "Why is JR not holding a grudge against Austin for Invasion?"

Yeah but in a not so distant past feuds lasted more than a month. That's why it's good to see when lets say the Rock and HHH are teaming up that they say to each other "I still don't like you".
But JR never seems to remember anything.

I understand your point, but waaaay back in the day before 12 PPV's a year and two weekly televised shows which pit main event wresters against main event wrestlers, there was a longer time that passed between feuds and, in the event of a face/heel turn, they gave us the benefit of some sort of dialog or background as to why this would happen.

In order to get people to buy into the Austin heel turn, JR was put up as a sacrificial lamb and absorbed a major bloody beating from his former bestest bud.

When Austin turned face briefly at Invasion, JR loved him again. Then Austin turned heel again and JR hated him. Then Austin turned face again after Survivor Series and JR loved him again.

Now normally, I'd let this stuff fly, since they are commentators, but when they become INVOLVED in the angles to the degree that they actually get in the ring and take a beating from a wrestler, I expect a little continuity...just a little...maybe Austin apologizes to JR and they grudgingly agree to move forward, not as friends, but not as enemies.

When you exploit their relationship to the degree that they did during the initial heel turn, it stands to reason that they consider it important enough to clean the mess up properly.

Okay, I see where you're coming from more now--I thought that you were claiming that they did a better job with feuds until very recently, but you're not saying that.
You're saying that long ago, they used to do a better job, and I agree.

I think the thing with JR and Austin just shows why you should never involve commentators in angles.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Invasion is being treated like the dream season of Dallas. The plot holes in the WWF won't sink the boat but smarks will point and go "HEY! Your GOD DAMN boat is leaking!"
