I know there hasn't been a lot of love for Jeremy Shockey, but I didn't understand why until I saw the start of today's NFC playoff game. Shockey threw a tantrum on the sideline and tossed a cup of ice water into the crowd, nailing a little kid.

Terrell Owens has been given such a bad rap. His antics are all in good fun. But Shockey has clearly shown himself to be a first class jerk after today's display.

Spike the damn ball you piece of crap punter. Long time since a loss made me physically ill. Second time in the Fassel era that the Big Blue Defense has blown big leads in the playoffs (Vikings '97).

Don't you mean Terrell Owens: Football's Biggest Jackass?

Also, Julius Peterson is a jackass.

I hope Tampa Bay beats San Fran next Sunday.

Hmmm, Football's Biggest Jackass?

My vote goes to the Giants' Shaun Williams, who was dumb enough to unnecessarily retaliate not once, but on two straight plays, costing the Giants a potential extra 30 yards for the final drive. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Oh, wait, maybe that's more like Football's Biggest Dumbass!
As for the original topic: as idiot as Shockey's ice-chucking was, he still doesn't top Lawrence Phillips' incidents in the past, I think.

I'm pretty sure that Randy Moss has a LOT of people beat for the NFL jackass award.

Part of that blame has to go to the Giants coaches. Even though they shouldn't need to do it, they HAVE to explain to the holder that it's only 3rd down with plenty of time to throw the ball away if necessary. Of course, maybe the Giants coaches did explain that situation to the holder and he was still a big enough spazz to mess it up.

That was INCREDIBLY stupid to let Owens off the hook for 2 consecutive 15 yards penalties (which would have been huge in that situation) but, some consideration for "Biggest Dumbass" has to go to whoever in the Giants organization brought in Junkin as the snapper. He was cut by Dallas after only 1 week in preseason because he messed up several snaps in his only preseason game.

As for Shockey, he needs to learn how to control his emotions a little better. A swagger of confidence and maybe even cockiness is fine if you can back it up (which Shockey's talent can) but, there is still a line you can't cross. As I mentioned in a previous Shockey thread, as a former Free Safety, I GUARANTEE that his mouth will earn him a concussion or 2 in the near future when some Safeties and LBs go headhunting while he's going across the middle.

As I said before, TO's stuff is all in good fun. There's no harm in pulling out a Sharpie or doing an endzone dance with the SF cheerleaders. I can't stand Shockey's bullshit, because he's just throwing tantrums without caring who comes in harm's way. NFL Prime Time missed the ice-chucking incident, but they did catch Shockey later in the game throwing another tantrum. This time he kicked a football helmet, nearly decking a teammate.

But in response to some other posts, Randy Moss ranks up there as well. Props to Mr. Moss for also being a first class jerk.

But, then, couldn't Owens be named as the jackass as well, as he had the two penalties that were retaliated against in the final minute.

Why is it that Shockey is continuously praised by the announcers and his actions are an after thought, while Owens is accused of being a cancer for the same type of things.
To me the only differance between these two is Owens performs in the clutch while Shockey isn't there yet.
The Media loves the white boy with the mouth and the bad attitude. Maybe I should let my redneck show more often.

First half: Shockey taunts the San Fran sideline while the Giants run up a big lead, and nails a kid with a cup of ice water.

Second half: Shockey drops a TD pass whose points would've (eventually) been the deciding factor, and his team never scores again after that drive.

KARMA TSUNAMI, baby. Coincidence at best, but the Football Gods work in mysterious ways sometimes...

Of course, he hit the kid with the ice water when they were behind 7-0, then he made some big catches at the end of the first half, but why let facts get in the way.

Read it again. There were three statements in the quoted material:

1) Shockey taunted the San Fran sideline in the first half (which is true)
2) The Giants ran up a big lead in the first half (which is true)
3) Shockey nailed a kid with a cup of ice water in the first half (which is true)

But why let basic reading comprehension skills get in the way?

That's why the first rule is putting items in the order they occurred. In the manner presented, it would appear that Shockey threw the ice after getting the lead and taunting SF. Instead, he threw the ice first.

Sure, Shockey's a jackass. But he's a dangerous jackass. And he's OUR jackass. (ducks and covers)

Really, though, he makes plays, gives everything he can on every down, and has already learned at least a bit about why he shouldn't embarass himself off the field (Mike y Mad Dog, the kid). It's a little early to start calling him a cancer, guys. He keeps his off-field antics up (and, of course, stops trying to play), then go ahead. But right now, I can't see anyone calling Shockey or TO anything more than jackasses who are really good.

Hey nineteen posts on footballs biggest jackass and not one mention of Michael Irvin.

Did y'all forget him so fast? I'm sure wherever he is right now he's most hurt.
