| #1 Posted on 27.12.02 0936.53 Reposted on: 27.12.09 0945.18 | What is the WWE hoping to accomplish with the "Rock & Wrestling" era push for Bill DeMott? The "Midcarder squashes jobbers" push hasn't gone anywhere for at least 10 years. This push was a staple of WCW (Van Hammer & Wrath come to mind of the top of my head), and always ended with "midcarder loses to upper-midcarder, push ends, midcarder is never heard from again." And I don't really see any other way for this one to go.
So, Bill DeMott squashes a couple of more cruiserweights the next couple weeks. What do they do with him at Royal Rumble? How is this guy going to be on TV in a month?

If they're counting on Tough Enough to get him over then they shouldn't have shown him getting all soft on Jonah last week. | vacheroi

Perhaps our definition of the Diesel push are different, but I thought Steve Austin's run through Royal Rumble 97 was pretty much a Diesel type push. | cfgb

Worked with Rikishi in 2000... Fans were just a TAD pissed upon his getting dumped.
Kane got it in 2001 - and it certainly worked for about 2 weeks, until they forgot what to do with him again. | GRL

| #9 Posted on 27.12.02 1416.07 Reposted on: 27.12.09 1417.03 | These days, the Diesel push feels a little more forced, than anything. It's as if they're saying that by giving a wrestler the Diesel push in the Rumble is going to equate with a bigger push in the months following. We expect the same from King of the Ring, and that starts to feel forced, too.
What I'd LOVE to see, is a wrestler who shouldn't be receiving the Diesel push(big tough guy eliminating everyone... and I know that's not an EXACT definition of the Diesel push) get it, ala Matt Hardy. | asteroidboy

Batista's a good candidate, but I'm somehow thinking Vince gets STUBBORN~! and gives the Diesel push to A-Train in a last ditch attempt to get him over. As usual, it probably won't work.
Whether the Diesel push goes to Batista, Bill DeMott, or A-Train, the real losers...are the FANS! | Lotty

But if A-Train doesn't succeed this time do you think he'll be gone? (My guess is yes.)
They wouldn't get rid of DeMott for a good year or so, and I doubt the WWE will get rid of Show anytime soon.
I think Vince needs to realize that the era of big men is over. (Like Jericho said on Tough Enough II.)
The pushes deserve to go to guys like RVD, Matt Hardy, Edge, and Jericho.
