Now, I want DDP to stay over and provide the WWF with a new top guy (or, more realistically, a new top midcarder). But, to say DDP is "over, period" is a bit presumptuous. He was over with this particular crowd, yes, but wait and see if he gets that reaction everywhere else in the country before you make a statement like that.

The crowd was in Virginia, which is a ways from the traditional WCW territories of Georgia and the Carolinas. I think it's just far enough away to be an omen of things to come. I mean he has three initials, which is good for the parrots in the stands. He has a finisher which still rocks.

And he sucks up to the fans of course.

Call me crazy, but I think DDP's gonna get over again.

Just bring back Kimberly Page and I'll be a happy man. I would love to see her kick some female butt in the WWF.

Kimberly Page on TV = Good.

Kimberly Page on TV doing anything remotely resembling trying to act, wrestle, or be anything but eye candy = Bad.

Just my thoughts.

Hey come on, she played a decent "bitch" role near the end of WCW when her and Bischoff did away with DDP. She was never given an opportunity to act before cause she was always managing all that Nitro Girl crap. Was she any worse than Terri?

Irrelevant question, because I never liked Terri's "acting" either. Though Terri even lacks the redeeming quality of being attractive to me, as I don't care for her chimpanzee face and unnatural Hogan-like orange skin.

By the way, speaking of DDP, I just read a little of the Smackdown spoilers, but I'll let Mark Coale spill the beans on this one, and not annoy CRZ again.

All I'll say is, it's not a bad thing. It's a good thing.

What DDP is missing is that incredibly bad hairdo he was sportin for so many years...

I think DDP deserves better and the fact that the guy goes out there every night and tries hard is enough for me. On the stick he sucks, but put him in the ring with somebody for 5-15 minutes and good things will happen. The guy works his ass off and I was happy to see he was more over than the Godfather, for the simple fact that Paige deserves it. I'm not going to say that he should be world champion, but a nice feud with Kurt Angle would be kinda cool.

Godfather's never really been over... it's his hos--- er, escorts, that have been over. You notice the lack of much of a pop for the Godfather until he brought out the women? True to form.

DDP is more natural.

Good lord!

His pop was even bigger on SD! than on Raw!

How did he get so crazy over so fast?

Only thing I can think of is that he's one of those guys the fans naturally love. I don't think he can be an effective heel. The closest he got was when he had the Triad in WCW but even then, you just knew the fans weren't buying into the REAL people's champ as a bad guy.

Whatever the reason, I'm loving it. It's a great time for him to big gaining momentum too with the nWo suggestions made by the other ppl in this post. It would give Big Show a little direction too which is something he hasn't had in a long time.

Isn't Vrigina supposedly 'WCW" country....if so I'm guessing that's why he was so over.

Nowadays, with the benefit of hindsight, it really does look like an awful idea for DDP to have not just sat out and taken his whole WCW contract.

This thread is interesting for me because I've been watching Nitro on 24/7 from 10 years ago, and watching DDP gets progressively more over is one of those things that is really impressive now. I know he was Eric Bischoff's neighbor and all that, but he really did a hell of a job connecting with the crowds and making himself the everyman. I wonder what might have happened to his character had they not been concurrently building to the epic Sting v. Hogan encounter, and had Bret Hart not come to WCW. Those two things forced DDP to never really get to be the lead guy fighting for WCW, and I think he could have done pretty well in that role.

WCW country didn't seem to mean shit when the Invasion was going on..
why can't he be a face/be popular?
I am sure they will mute the chants soon enough so let him have his moment
