Reports have it (411,wrestling observer), that the Smackdown taping tonite has slightly under 4,000 tickets sold. Is it time to say Atlanta, which only a few years ago could sell 40,000-50,000 seats at the Georgia Dome, has become a wrestling wasteland, much like Texas after the fall of the Von Erich's. Although this damage was caused mainly by WCW, this is not a good sign when one of the historical wrestling markets crashes. Gee, announcing Scott Steiner will appear on a card is doing the same wonders for the WWF/E as it did for WCW.

Yes, because the droves cued up at the ticket office fled the scene as soon as they Scott Steiner was going to be there. WWE have never had hot business in Atlanta. But if this is the reaction that the GOOD brand gets, then I don't see how the fed has any chance of improving their busines in the near future down south.

I'm slow to say that one, though... you'd think they would want to see Angle, Benoit, Brock Lesnar, Eddy Guerrero, Edge, etc.

Actually, the only reason I mentioned Scott Steiner was because I thought Michael Cole was going to wet his panties last week on SD talking about Steiner being on SD this week.
Atlanta is a dead market, and they should stay away from it for at least two years. This might have a Saturday Night feel to the broadcast though, because if the crowd isn't papered, they will have to put everyone on one side of the arena and make sure not to shoot the other side to make it look like they have people there. My WWF/E is becoming pre-Nitro WCW theory gains momentum daily.

Lesnars suspended, Benoits underappreciated, and Edge is having to fight Albert.

I agree, given the guys still there you would think more people would turn out but sadly it ain't the case.

Which really does undermine a lot of the arguments made about the casual fans being closer to us than you'd think. See, if SmackDown came to MY area, I'd be there like a shot. But people just do not appreciate wrestling like we do. Angle, Benoit, Edge, Jamie Noble, Matt Hardy, the debut of Nunzio, the Guerreros, Kidman, Tajiri, even Show...I'd love to see 'em all. But that's not the case with the wider majority.

But OSH, shouldn't Raw be doing gangbusters business then, since they have all the guys the marks supposedly love like HHH and Kane? And really, with someone with much more credibility amongst the marks like the Big Show, you'd think people would be turning out in droves, since he is HUGE y'know. And the Dawn Marie/Torrie storyline has Lesbianism! and everyone knows the kidz luv lesbians!

So if no one is drawing, then wouldn't you rather see a good wrestling show then a bad one?

What I mean is back in the hot period, I didn't have interest in going to WWF TV shows because I wasn't interested in listening to guys talk for 2 hours live but they were selling out so who was I to judge?

Now no one is drawing so it'd make more sense to at least stick with a good wrestling product that appeals to your hardcore audience instead of driving them away in an effort to get back fans that are never coming back.

I agree, I think they drove enough of them away as it is.

Was anyone actually at the Atlanta show to verify if there were only 4,000 people there?

The fans want to see names....... not so much wrestling.
Put names like Rock, STone Cold, Hogan, etc. all on one card and u may find it easier to get the casual fan to come. The casual fan probably doesnt even know that matt hardy is by himself now
