The new 10th Anniversary RAW magazine is out, and it's actually a pretty cool buy. It's got a "look-back" article, a story about the first RAW, an interview with Vince McMahon and series of "Diva" pictorials that actually includes Sable, Chyna and Sunny. (And Mae Young and Jackie Gayda, although much more briefly)

But the coolest part is a feature on the Top 100 Moments in RAW History. Unfortunitely, the list was chronological, so there's no chance to bitch about order, but, if you're interested and don't want to buy the magazine, the moments are:

1, The first RAW

3. The Andre the Giant memorial bell-tolling

19. Yokozuna is forklifted out after having his leg broken by Vader

20. Goldust kisses Ahmed Johnson

Happened on SUPERSTARS, actually...you know, back when things still happened on the weekend shows.

<< 85. Crash Holly's 24/7 Hardcore Title reign >>

Actually started on Smackdown, I believe, but some of its finer moments happened on Raw.

Things still happen on the weekend shows. Hell, they have entire storylines now instead of just inserting things to save time on the big shows.

Well, there's Raven stuff, and that's just because he's "barred" from Raw...

Regarding #23, “Shawn Michaels ‘losing his smile’”, I've heard that alluded to before, but what exactly is it? When did it happen? What led up to it?

So summarize the Shawn Michaels "losing his smile" angle. He was supposed to job to Bret Hart at WM13, he didn't want to so he forfeited the belt. That and I believe he was injured a little bit, I think it was a banged up knee or something.

The main part though was that he said he had to forfeit the title because somewhere along the line he had "lost his smile" (he actually said that). He said he'd have to head back home until he found his smile again. It was all very... weird...

15. Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Diesel take on Yokozuna, Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith (Filling space, are we?)

This is absolutely NOT a space filler. This was, by far, the best beatdown I've ever seen, as Camp Cornette and Dean Douglas DESTROY, MAIM, AND MUTILATE the faces for a good 5-10 minutes. Yoko repeatedly legdrops Taker, Owen and DBS lay out Diesel and put him in the Sharpshooter for over a minute, and Dean Douglas wrecks Michaels with the guardrail and the steps. One of the most impactful segments of wrestling television ever.

Yeah, I also think he was alluding to his "demons" with that remark. Basically, he was saying that he lost his smile, meaning his passion and love for the business. At least that's what I got from it. I'm sure the whole "not wanting to job" part was there as well.
I was actually at the event that night and people were BAWLING in the stands. It was almost like a funeral or something.

That's a good list, but my question is, if they could fit 100 moments in a magazine, why couldn't they fit those 100 moments on the website, then they could just get the higher ranking ones on the program? I think that would allow more diversity in the choices for top moments. One I'd vote for if it was included in the site: The debut (and then heel turn) of the RadicalZ. That was a work of art!

a little more about #15:

This was one of Watt's big angles when he was working for the WWF. He brought the heels out and they completely destroyed the top five baby faces. I remember HBK getting suplexed onto the stairs or the guardrail, I think. This was total annihilation by the heels and a wonderful Raw moment. So glad to see it made the list!

The list seems rather heavy on three fronts:
-McMahons
-Weddings
-Austin

But then again, I guess so is WWF TV...so, par for the course.

Hmm...interesting ommission. Nobody mentioned anything about the "Who ran over Austin?" storyline.

I see no mention of the moment Foley pointed the finger at Rikishi and Rikishi's subsequent confession. I personally marked out for that moment, because it was a case of the least likely suspect having done it. But unlike many Russo-esque plots, it actually sorta made sense (Rikishi and Rock are related, so Rikishi ran Austin over for him) and could have seriously turned Rikishi into a major player.

Maybe it's because it all went downhill after Triple H had to put himself over YET AGAIN by saying he was the mastermind, thus knocking Rikishi down a peg.

Now that I think about it, nobody bitched back then about Rikishi being held down! Triple H totally knocked him into the midcard and yet nobody said anything! And don't tell me it's because Rikishi sucks, because he was a solid worker back then! How come nobody stuck up for Rikishi the way everybody's backing RVD and Booker today?

Actually, after HHH took credit for being the mastermind, I remember reading complaints about HHH taking heat away from Rikishi and making Rikishi look like his stooge. Of course, that was the pre quad injury HHH and that HHH delivered great performances so, people would be more willing to forgive such a thing more so than they do now.

The list looks good but, I disagree with these inclusions:

7. Jerry Lawler does his own commentary, squashing a jobber

11. Yokozuna and Earthquake's sumo match

25. Chyna's debut

38. Marc Mero makes Sable wear a potato sack to the ring

52. Sable pins Marc Mero

Are all of those moments really more memorable or bigger than:

- Brian Pillman running into the ring and attacking Austin after the angle where Austin put Pillman out by "Pillmanizing" his ankle with a chair.

- The first ECW invasion

- Big Show chokeslamming the Undertaker all the way through the mat (or, before that when Undertaker broke the baseball bat over Big Show's head)

- The match where Mankind got sick of the way HHH was treating him so he ripped off his mask and became Cactus Jack leaving HHH laying on the floor bleeding. This set up the great Cactus Jack-HHH feud that ended Mick Foley's career

- WCW's World and U.S. Champion, Booker T, attacking Vince McMahon in the ring at Madison Square Garden

- DDP taking off the mask to reveal himself as the stalker

- Jim Ross cutting a heel promo against Vince and then introducing a fake Razor Ramon and Diesel

- WCW's new owner, Shane McMahon, interrupting Kurt Angle's recreation of his gold medal ceremony which lead to Kurt angleslamming Shane off the top of the medal podium and starting the Angle-Shane feud for the King of the Ring street fight.
