The starting lineups are out and this is what it looks like

East

C - Dikembe Motumbo

PF - Antoine Walker

SF - Micheal Jordan

SG - Vince Carter

PG - Allen Iverson

West

C - Shaquille O'Neal

PF - Tim Duncan

SF - Kevin Garnett

SG - Kobe Bryant

PG - Steve Francis

I know it's decided by voters and aren't selected, but I will give my synopsis anyway...

In the West you got probably the four best players in the game in the starting lineup (Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Kobe). It's too bad Stojovic or Nowitzki didn't make it, but you can't argue with Kevin Garnett or Kobe. Maybe if Shaq hadn't miss any games I could justify Stojovic deserving to start, but since Shaq has missed some games and Kobe has had to carry them at times I don't mind Kobe starting. I may be in the minority here but if I were choosing point guard, i'd probably go with Nick Van Exel, he's having a great year despite being on the lowly Nuggets. If not Van Exel than I'd probably go with Payton again. Francis is great, but hasn't he been injured most of the season? Shaq was injured too I believe, but who else is there?

In the East is where I have a problem, Iverson is definitely one of the best players in the game but Jason Kidd should be starting the All Star Game. Iverson doesn't even play poing guard. But of course the NBA isn't going to have the guts to make Iverson a shooting guard option and make the fans choose Vince OR Iverson when they can put Iverson at point guard and let them both be in the starting lineup. Still, the fans should've voted for Jason Kidd over Iverson anyway, which is why fans should not decide the starting lineups. Antoine Walker is not a name you would normally see on there, but I can't think of anyone who deserves it more, even though Paul Pierce is the better player on the team and HAS had a better season than Jordan, but it's Jordan, so what are you going to do? And of course Motumbo is in due, he's probably the only center in the East that any fans have heard of.

Reserves should be pretty tough to choose, I'd tell you what I think, but I've done enough rambling.

Does anyone think that the combination of Iverson/Carter/Jordan playing together will interest the fans any?

Another question I forgot to ask, when was the last time a Celtic started the All Star Game?

Larry Bird, I imagine (or perhaps Robert Parish) ... I know Reggie Lewis was the last Celtic (other than Antoine) to actually play at all in an All Star Game.

Actually, Bird was selected to start in '91 and '92, but was injured and didn't play.

But he was the last Celtic to start, along with Kein McHale, back in 1990.

It looks like Jordan will run the point for the East and Mutumbo will have to rebound against O'Neal, Duncan and Garnett while the other 3 guys jack it up from everywhere.

I'll be looking forward to Nellie coaching Chris Webber again, if he's named as an alternate, and I would imagine he would be.

That doesn't mean they have to be cordial to each other...I just think it's an interesting sidebar to the game itself.

Don't think Webber will make the reserves (altthough I would like him to cause he's my favorite player) but Divac will probably get the back up center position since there aren't any other centers really and Stojavic will most definitely make it. I'm not so sure they will be quick to put three guys on one team in there. Especially since Webber was injured for part of the season and there are so many power forwards in the West.

Plus Nellie votes for the reserves so maybe he doesn't vote for Webber

Webber made it. Here's the whole list.

    East:
    Paul Pierce, Boston
    Jermaine O'Neal, Indiana
    Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Atlanta
    Alonzo Mourning, Miami
    Ray Allen, Milwaukee
    Jason Kidd, New Jersey
    Tracy McGrady, Orlando

    West:
    Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas
    Steve Nash, Dallas
    Wally Szczerbiak, Minnesota
    Peja Stojakovic, Sacramento
    Karl Malone, Utah
    Gary Payton, Seattle
    Chris Webber, Sacramento

I kind of thought CWebb would make it on account of the Kings' record, but I'm most surprised that Elton Brand got left off.

Does anyone know the lineup for the dunk contest? Since 2000, when Vince won it, it has become a bunch of scrubs. I assume it will be the same this year.

Well they are required to pick a back up center on the All Star teams I guess Nowitzki will play some, he's played a little center for the Mavs. Or I guess maybe Webber? Didn't he play center when he played in Golden State and maybe in Washington too? Brand did have a great year but you can't really argue with what they have. Stojakoic and Nowitzki definitely should be there. They have to have Payton and Nash to have to back up guards. Sczerbiak is the reason the TWolves have improved so much. He can't take Webber's place if Webber indeed is the backup center. That just leaves Malone, Malone is the better scorer but Brand is the better rebounder. But belive it or not the Clippers have more scoring threats than the Jazz so he Brand has to share the ball more. If it were my choice I'd take Brand over Malone for two reasons 1) new blood, Malone has been there like a hundred times, let some younger guys get a turn 2) reward the Clippers for their team's improvement

As for the East it's weird that the West only got one center and the East got three, I probably would've gone with just O'Neal and left off Mourning. And who would I replace him with, the most overlooked guy in the NBA

Andre Miller...he has GOT to get out of Cleveland. Baron Davis has had a good season too but you can't argue with the rest.
