Naked Eyes were a duo that had four Top 40 singles in 1982 and 1983, then promptly disappeared as a casualty of EMI America suddenly realising they were flat broke (that's not the REAL story, but it's the more entertaining version...trust me)
1. Promises, Promises - Jellybean 7" Mix
This was probably part of the problem - you have a perfectly good Jellybean mix, but YOU NEVER RELEASE IT. Bonus of all bonuses is his then-squeeze Madonna providing some extra spoken-word goodness during the bridge.
2. Always Something There To Remind Me - Tony Mansfield 12" Mix
I heard this on K093 and went nuts trying to find it...and never did, with good reason it turns out as it was promo only for the radio stations and well shoot I'm glad I have it now. (I DID get the Jellybean remix a few years back, but that's ANOTHER another story)

4. (What) In The Name Of Love - Arthur Baker 12" Mix
(What) turned out to be their last 12" single

Scheduled for release just before EMI America went belly up, never seen the light of day until here. Not a great revelation but hey, Arthur Baker, c'mon.

Damn they put *three* versions on here - this one another unreleased version

Two B sides (for "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "Voices in My Head" if you're keeping track) and now ALL the B's are available on CD...provided you'd already bought the earlier "Greatest Hits" EMI/Capitol slapped together

Said greatest hits package (actually, there were two - of course I AM nutty enough to own both) managed to include every track off the first album and all but two tracks of the second album - so they went ahead and gave out these two so that EVERYTHING would be digitally preserved for the obsessive/compulsive Naked Eyes collector.

Interestingly, the debut single of the second album saw first life as this "Promises, Promises" B side. When I say "interestingly," again, you know I mean "to no one but myself." Still, nice of them to make sure it was on CD. "Hello my name is Rob and this is my Fairlight."

The two A's and B's of the pre-Naked Eyes group Neon, from 1980 and 1981. Historically curious but nothing earth-shattering...although hearing Rob Fisher play everything out by hand because they hadn't invented sequencers yet (or something) is really remarkable. Sharp eyes WILL recognise one track that later resurfaced on "Fuel For the Fire," then fall asleep.
Pete Byrne, I love you. I love that you made this CD just for me. Of course, I'm a LITTLE annoyed that all the 45s and 12" singles I'd scrupulously collected over the years are now superfluous but hey, I still have the bragging rights.
