| #1 Posted on 24.11.02 2140.14 Reposted on: 24.11.09 2145.25 | I was reading some threads in here today, and got a bug up my arse to get a new PS2 game from the parents as an early birthday gift. (Dec. 9. Send money) To sweeten the deal, I figured I'd try to save them some money and trade in a number of my old Playstation games. Make them pay the difference. Anyway, to get to the point, I've gathered about 24 games or so. The cds are all in decent condition, but some of the cases are broken or not the orgininal, and I lost some documentation. I was just curious if any of you have traded in old stuff, and what kinda credit you got for it. Maybe you could give me an idea of what I'd be getting.
BTW: I'm leaning more toward geting Smackdown: SYM. I'll save GTA:Vice City for Christmas. Make it that much more special. :) | Promote this thread! | | vsp

| #2 Posted on 24.11.02 2157.24 Reposted on: 24.11.09 2159.01 | In a nutshell -- don't even THINK about trying to trade them at one of the chain-stores (Electronics Boutique, GameStop, etc.)
First off, you may be surprised at just how few games the store may be willing to accept. EB, for instance, has an absolutely MASSIVE PS1 restricted list -- too big to print, since they already have thousands and thousands of PS1 games that they can't get rid of for $10 or less. I strongly suspect that most other chains have similar policies.
Even if they take some of them (certainly less than half), they'll be selling THOSE used for $10-15. This means they'll be giving you single-digit dollars per game, probably on the low end of single-digits at that. Is it really worth it?
Here's a better idea -- find someone you know who has a PS1 or PS2, and see if they'd pay a lump sum for a pile of games privately. You'll likely get much better terms than you would from a store. (Likewise, do you have an old PS1 as well that you could part with? If so, it may be easier -- you might find someone who wants to get their kids something to play with for Xmas, but doesn't want to spend a bundle. Your PS1+games might save them some shopping and make you a few bucks.) | Quezzy

I remember I had Final Fantasy VII (or maybe it was VIII) it was still pretty new and was like THE game out and I had already beaten it so I asked Babbages how much they would give me for it. Their reply....

| #4 Posted on 25.11.02 0900.25 Reposted on: 25.11.09 0900.26 | I wanted to do the same thing w/ PS2 games. So, Saturday I went to Gamestop to trade 4 games and get SD: SYM. My trade-ins were:
(PS2) Tony Hawk 3 - $8 All Star Baseball 2003 - $8 Grand Theft Auto 3 - $10 SD: KYR - $8
Plus, they charged me a $3 "resurfacing fee" because Tony Hawk had a few scratches on it. (yet had no problems during gameplay) Bastards!
So, I ended up getting the new SD game for like $23 with tax. Not a bad deal, but pretty much shit for trade-ins. | Alex

I made enough from selling Mega Man X-2 and Secret of Mana for SNES to buy a brand new BIG telescope. I also made mucho dinero for my Sega CDX. All of this was stuff I didn't play anyway, so a pretty sweet deal. | Zeruel

Better prices, better credit, good selection, fast arrival of new titles. I'd rather shop online or surf through eBay than resort to EB. | krakken2000

| #9 Posted on 27.11.02 1759.17 Reposted on: 27.11.09 1801.05 | | I actually usually get a good deal through EB. But I also tend to do a quick turnaround on games. i.e. Once I solve a game I have no desire to replay it. So since the game is erlatively new I can sometimes still get up to $25 for trade in credit. | drjayphd

I only got a couple of games from the friendly neighborhood Funcoland, though. Most of the time, I buy used games off of half.com or eBay. Sure, you can get a good deal selling games, but you can also save money buying, too. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
