My bad for calling a tweed blazer a sportcoat on Monday. But, like I said then the Fashion Report isn't so much about the fashion as it is about the funny nicknames. So, since I've got to make my supper, tonight we've got...

...a half-assed Fashion Report, too.

Rey beats Noble with a sweet move off the middle rope. Oh, Rey wore a mask and Noble wore cutoff jeans.

Brocky (in a bull skull black tee) is ticked, and a bit scared, and a bit embarrased, that he how has to change with everyone else. So he goes into the HEEL lockerroom ('cuz it's hard to break months of habit) and throws Matt through a wall. We can all pray that Version1 doesn't have any papercuts.

Eddie doesn't feel safe. Noble/Nidia lament - a crazy cousin? Hootie, in a black power-suit (with rocket launchers!) takes time to "reason" with Brocky. Brocky doesn't listen well, 'cuz he's really got to pee (that's why he paces, see?).

That Contra commercial is SO COOL!

Billy, in blue/black trunks, boots, and elbowpads, vs. Tajiri, in black, w. white (oriental) dragons, pants. Champ retains. Did anyone else think that Tajiri was acting like a heel?

Mark talks to Paul (and Paul). Well, that was the cruiserweight half-hour.

Ben-wa, in red trunks w. bones, vs. Chavo, in blue/neon-green slashes trunks, wearing the Tag Title belt, w. Eddie, also in belt. But the blueshirt sends Eddie to the back. Great announcing - speculating on whether working the midsection affects certain moves. Nice match.

Brocky/Steph hang-out. Her hair is partly-curly. Hey, since when does SHE act on behalf of a wrestler, giving advice and all? Hmm, you think...?

Hugh!, um, Bill, is coming to Smackdown!

Paul, in black suit and NY hat, wearing the belt w. "Asshole" chant is here for some motivational speeking. The belt says "Big Show". No, Brock didn't get screwed - he got bested. Heyman's character is SO COOL! (and Paul, in sports coat) fortunately has the same music - it's grown on me over the years. (and Paul) gives a nice promo. Wait - a "giant" with a "mastermind"? Hmm, giant/mind...Giant/Brain? Woah! Well, Brocky must really want to heal those ribs. (and we cut to commercial, FAST).

Alright, porkchops are FINALLY done.

Steph bends and gives Brocky ONE MORE chance.

Angle, in flag singlet/kneepads, vs. Eddie, in green/black/gold trunks, wearing the belt, w. Chavo. Again, the blueshirt sends the partner away. Oh, the dreaded "Second chair" move. Eddie is from El Paso, but crowd gives "USA" chant anyway. Hey, will Kurt ever be a face again? Well, the crowd cheers when he wins, but they also "You Suck" him. Ben-wa...watches.

Oh-oh, BoomShackaLaka on smackdown!. Edge/Funaki - Edge makes us care about him in the match tonight. Hey, no Al/Dawn tonight - but LUGZ makes me think otherwise.

Cena, in white/yello gear, vs. Rikishi, in black shirt w. red dragon star. Shiz - Al/Dawn make gab. Ring the damn bell and get the match started. Well, they did that during the commercial. Cena's ass in NOWHERE near gross enough for any of the ass-based offense to work. Who the..., in a stocking cap.

Paul (and Paul) commiserate. (and Paul) is forceful. Torrie's music calms her down (and makes her not forget any "spots").

Paul, paranoid - see how he clutches that belt, confides in Steph. Paul is great. Steph gets angry.

Edge, in BLUE/white trenchcoat and black/blue trunks, vs. Paul (and Paul, in a black singlet and a wrap on his FUBAR'ed arm). Brocky interferes. Man, Paul runs quickly! Okay, NOW Brocky should be suspended. Hey, no contest? Did (and Paul) win by DQ? What? Anyway, (and Paul) was pretty good - Edge isn't ready for the Title yet, and besides, Brocky/Paul isn't done yet.

Overall: a good show - a bit slow between the Cena/Rikishi match and the Main Event, but it DID serve to further the ongoing Paul (and Paul)/Brocky story. A good two hours.

Smackdown is building momentum.

Things worth mentioning:

Matt Hardy's quick, "I'm sorry," before going through the wall was funny.

The Peyton Manning, NFL Fever, Xbox Live commercial was funny.

Brock Lesnar really is the next big thing.

Yes, it was Bull. At the show, we didn't recognize him until the close-up either.

Miscellaneous observations...

Rey vs. Jamie was good -- Rey still remembers how to work with guys who aren't gods. (Not that Jamie isn't good. But compared to Kurt, Benoit & Eddie ... I'm just saying ...)

I loved Brock throwing Matt completely through the wall, into the next room. As they were collecting Matt up after the commercial, was that Albert (in the yellow shirt) peeking under the remains of the wall? Tee-hee.

Eddie is such a good heel. To Stephanie:
-- "This is an unsafe work environment." Hilarious.
-- "Do you actually think that Brock Lesnar is going to listen to a woman??" OoooooOOOOOhhhh!

Am I just confused? When Steph was trying to talk to Brock in the hall, one of the things she said was, "But I promise you, you will have your rematch. But just not tonight. Not until your ribs are healed up." Well now that doesn't fit in real well with Heyman's speech later in the show, when he concluded with, "Brock Lesnar, I hereby dump you as a client ... My final act as your agent occurred at the end of last week, before Survivor Series, when I negotiated one other clause in your contract : No Rematch!" Uhhh, wouldn't Steph be aware of that? Wouldn't Steph have been the one that Heyman would have negotiated with?

Kidman vs. Tajiri was fine. Kidman is one of the guys that does a better job of getting pulled into the Tarantula without looking too much like he's helping.

Tazz during Benoit vs. Chavo : "Wolverines can fly." & "Let's take one more look at the Flying Wolverine." Nice little match.

When Heyman came out to Brock's music, doing Brock's Happy Dance... He got to the side of the ring where Brock does the vertical jump up to the ring apron, looked at it, bounced a bit, looked again, walked over to the steps; bounced there, & then hit the huge vertical leap up to the first step of the steps. ROTFL.

Tazz: "When it comes to business relationships, Paul Heyman is a nymphomaniac." Cole: "Huh?" "He screws everybody he comes in contact with."

Cole said something about Los Dos Guerreros being jackals. Tazz said something about jackals being barnyard animals. "Jackals -- they eat hay & lay eggs & stuff." Tazz is on a roll tonight!

Kurt vs. Eddie w/ Chavo, & w/ Benoit watching from the stage, then applauding politely. Good stuff, as usual. Bet Kurt didn't want a hug from Chris when he got backstage. Chris does do some of his best non-wrestling work when he deliberately doesn't talk. (Hey, it works for Teller.)

Pretty decent promo by Edge on Big Show -- a little bit of funny stuff ("Don't worry -- we're not Tokyo."), but also some intensity.

Dawn Marie & Al -- yeeeeesh. Tazz & Cole were giggling like schoolgirls. Meanwhile Cena & Rikishi got to just stand there wondering what they were supposed to do.

Cena trying to do Rikishi's move back on him -- very silly, but entertaining. (I'm liking Cena more all the time. He usually tosses in some slightly funny stuff, but not so much that it disturbs the match flow, but rather enhances it.)

Big Show whining about not wanting to wrestle Edge, 'cause the chair shot from Brock hurt so was perfect. (Especially as foreshadowing for tonight's TE3 episode.) As was Heyman being terrified of Brock lurking about. Then Heyman threatening to sue everybody in the company if Brock did interfere; WWE only bats about .500 in lawsuits, right? (I just hope we don't end up with wrestling lawyers.)

Tazz re Heyman: "I could throw him far, but I still don't trust him."

I thought Edge did some nice work. As with Rey earlier, good to know that they can work with the non-gods.

I thought that F5 looked much better than the one at SS. (Might just mean that the rib is feeling better.)

Brock running in white sweatpants is much more picturesque than I would have thought. Hmmm. (Oops, I suppose that should be posted in the Ladies' Forum, shouldn't it?)

Random Smackdown Thoughts:

Heyman doing the happy dance was funny.

I liked Lesnar puttting Matt through the wall. Hey, a Michael Hayes sighting(!)

I think that was the 1st time ever in which they had 2 back-to-back matches without a commercial break.

Match of the night was Angle-Eddie. Chavo ruled during this match. Most of the other matches were alright.

I didn't know Lillian Garcia sang Torrie's theme.

Overall, another pretty good Smackdown.

Two things:

1. Big Show REALLY needs new entrance music. A rockin' bad-ass theme would go a long way in helping his character.

2. John Cena needs a gimmicked name. I heard Tazz refer to him as J.C. last night, so I'm officially nominating "JC Ice" as his new character name.

Yes, as a matter of fact, it was.

Well, he negotiated it with her lawyers. Maybe she just didn't think he'd screw him over like that and didn't bother checking the contract.

Yeah, that was good. At least at the show, we were waiting for Benoit to either turn on Angle or beat up a Guerrero.

Wow not a lot of thought for last night show. Don't blame you guys it seemed like a pretty bland show. Only Angle vs. Eddie really stood out last night as great.

-Mysterio v. Noble- Wow what a finish! Nice T-bone suplex by Noble. Nidia looked great like usual.

-Kidman v. Tajiri-Kidman comes out to the worst entrance music in the WWE. Is Tajiri a heel this week or is this face vs. face match. Tajiri kicks looked good like always.

-Benoit v. Chavo- What? no commercial break Chris Benoit is here and he's really mad. Crowd reacted to Benoit he no sells them. Benoit sold the arm that had me thinking "Uh oh what happened". Very nicely timed finishing spot to a crossface.

-Heyman/Big Show interview- Heymans a laugh mocking Lesner. Cool heel weasel move my Heyman to put in a no return clause in the match contract without Lesner knowing... How funny is it seeing Big Show trying to run away from Lesner with the chair but he was to fat to get his body moving. It looked like a cartoon when the legs run in circles but they stay in place to get momentum well that's how Big Show looked. It looked like he was moving his legs in place to get momentum to get out of there but couldn't (LOL). Look it's JR. Okay this is a taped show how did production miss that.

-Angle v. Eddie- Match of the night, Real great. Love the reverse of the lasso to the anklelock *repeat* set. Angle's amazing he broke out some new moves in this match like the flying forearm. I didn't read the spoilers so when Benoit appeared I was at the edge of my seat wondering what's going to happen. I was very markish wishing he'd come down and help Angle. You know they are doing a good job if this jaded smark getting totally into this match. =)

-Rikishi v. Cena- The only highlight from this match was Cena getting pissed off and yelling at Rikishi "You wanna do that to me come ooown"

-Big Show v. Edge- I thought Edge did well and also looked well. This match came off as good as I would imagine. F5 on the big man is just looks amazing.

-other stuff- I of course knew that Lilian did Torrie's song. I like the song and I like Lilian,(lol) Lil's way sexier then torrie (imo)... Dawn/ Al. Tazz was pretty funny asking of Al remembers if he's engaged... Why do all the wacky heels I get into needs to get punked out in a regular bases. Poor Matt... Okay interview by Edge w/ Funaki... A cousin being brought in the Noble/Nidia relationship. I smell Springer style cheatin'... Standard Show/ Heyman/ Brock/ Steph backstage stuff... Actually nothing really outstanding or funny in the backstage segments tonight

line of the night: Tazz "I think Al Wilson needs to be reminded that he's engaged"

I think he was supposed to be a heel, but I know I cheered him. Hell, he was the only one in the match getting any reaction. If Kidman's supposed to be the savior of the CW devision... (sigh)

Actually, the Benoit/Chavito match came off better live, where Chavo slips off the rope trying to do a springboard and gets put IMMEDIATELY into a Crossface, makes the ropes, then goes for a top-rope move and gets the Crossface (at which point he taps like a little wench). And imagine my disappointment when they re-did the Lesnar chase to end the show.

Let's see, I completely missed SmackDown last week (and I'm sorry I did, because Angle yelling "This move sucks!" to Eddie sounds like the funniest thing he's done yet), Survivor Series and decided to skip Raw, too. I'm way out of it. I actually didn't get to see all of this week's SmackDown, either, but I got to see the good parts.

I've just gone into detail in another thread about why I think they made a big mistake in turning Brock face so soon, so I don't want to go too much into that again. It's just part of SmackDown's weirdness where there are these problems looming in the background but the people on the show are so entertaining in the ring and otherwise every week that they manage to make it a terrific show.

Beyond the face Brock thing, I'm kind of talking about how they don't seem to know what they want to do with Matt Hardy despite his continued awesomeness, and now possibly Noble. Having a Noble/Misterio match only after Noble lost the title is kind of odd. But it's more how Noble is kinda like Bob Holly in that he was a guy who was given a potentially unwatchable gimmick (hey, on paper, the Big Shot thing sounds dumb) but made it really, really work just by getting into the character and being fun on TV, only to have them stop letting him do any of the things that made him so great...and then adding a wacky cousin.

But - this is SmackDown, so there's a but - Misterio/Noble was fun to watch anyway and thus I can ignore the possible Crash Noble badness that might happen. SmackDown, I owe you the benefit of the doubt.

Another but - it's good enough to get more than one - while I'm not crazy about face Brock and especially not Big Show being champ, this really is the best Big Show vs. Brock Lesnar feud possible. As someone who's not really a Heyman fan, I have to say he's doing great work all things considered. I'm not quite sure why he turned on Brock (since it's clear that Brock can demolish Show, and the only reason Lesnar lost is because Heyman turned on him, which is kind of a fatal logic loop, I think). Also, Show's coat was absolutely great. This needs to keep up, with Show dressing in a "Wink Martindale's Wardrobe Provided by Botany 500" meets John Shaft kind of 70s corporate casual. Mock turtleneck and blazer-wearing Big Show? And his awesome Dr. Strange-if-he-played-bass-for-the-James-Gang moustache? It's crazy. Good crazy. Did he have leather patches on the elbows? If not, get on this, SmackDown.

Big Show/Edge was better than I was expecting, too. They didn't have him bury Edge like the spoilers made it sound. Again, I think this template would have been really good for an Edge vs. heel Brock match.

I kinda liked Chavo vs. Benoit better than Angle vs. Eddie. Chavo's just got a great character and he took a heck of a beating on those suplexes. I hope he gets some more time to display his underrated wordrate. That's right, I said wordrate! It's like workrate, but with words. You know, where work would be. Look, I'm going to make this one stick, so just give in and accept it now and we'll all be happier.

Benoit, of course, has become the worst dresser in the world. He cashed in the cool tiger stripe/rip/claw marks for the iron-on animal bone decals? And that rabid wolverine t-shirt...man he's got no clue. He should start dressing exactly like the new Big Show, only with appropriately sized clothes or he'd look like Kevin Peter Hall in the Misfits of Science opening. He does have a kick-ass beard, though.

Cena, meanwhile, he needs to keep the yellow crayola outfit. That's perfectly ugly. And Bull's repackaged name should be "White Boy". Albert would be better for this role, but either way, have Cena try to play Don Cheadle in Out of Sight with one of them as White Boy.

I'm not quite sure why he turned on Brock (since it's clear that Brock can demolish Show, and the only reason Lesnar lost is because Heyman turned on him, which is kind of a fatal logic loop, I think).

I think the logic behind the Heyman turn was Brock stopped listening to Heyman, therefore he needed someone else that can kick ass and listen to whatever he says.
