It's almost that time of the year. You know RSPW awards, all the gaming magz deciding which game deserves to slap a Game of the Year sticker on the box while remaining the same price well into the next year. Last year it clearly came down to 2 games, 2 systems. GTA III and Halo. Most picked Halo overall, based mostly on it's multi-player game. Since I have both games but only 1 X-box controller I would have gave it to GTA III. Remember last year Final Fantasy X came out 2 weeks early in December. Most of the magz couldn't make it to print of course, so they will have to count FF X as a 2002 release. Now granted there are still a few games that aren't out yet,(Tomb Raider AOD, Resident Evil 0...etc.) so tell me based on what you have played, what would be your game of the year?

You can break it down in however many catorgories you like.
For me, I will do it in 6 catorgories.

Best Fighting Game (any system)
Virtua Fighter 4 (PS2)
(runner up)
Tekken 4

Best Graphics (any systems)
Resident Evil (Gamecube)
(runner up)
Sly Cooper (PS2)

Best RPG (any system)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
(runner up)
Kingdom Hearts (PS2)

Best Action-Adventure (any system)
Mark of Kri (PS2)
(runner up)
The Thing (PS2)

Best Sports (any system)
Madden 2003 (PS2)
(runner up)*tie*
Hot Shots 3 & WWE Smackdown 4 (PS2)

Best Video Game Overall (any system)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) <==Was there any doubt?
(runner up)*tie*
Super Mario Sunshine & Kingdom Hearts

I may have to change a few catorgories whenver my copies of Splinter Cell and Metroid Prime arrive from
Don't forget it takes about a week to get here in Japan.

Best RPG:

Morrowind (PC)

... well, then again, my vote really has little merrit, seeing as how I think it's the only 2002 game that I've really played. But hey, the game does kick all kinds of RPG ass.

I've been playing the Elder Scrolls game ever since Arena, and they are probably the best RPGs ever made.

At least, in that they compose what Role Playing Game means to me, and that's making my own character and doing whatever the hell I want.

I would have to agree ... Although "Star Fox Adventures" should definitely not be overlooked in this department.

Well I know I'm in the minority here but I think NCAA Football has been better than Madden every year as the number one sports game. And I'm also enjoying Smackdown more than Madden.

Also, I don't know what should be Best Action Adventure game, but I don't think The Thing should be nominated, I thought it was horrible.

And lastly, could the new Mortal Kombat be a contender for best fighting game?

Yeah, MK should be ok. But it doesn't match VF4 for this year.

Queezy had you played The Thing? What turned you off about the game. I got an email telling me to pick up a package, its Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 0, there are just too many kick ass games this year. I thought nothing could top 2001 as best year for games. If only a Final Fantasy XI could have made it over already. That would just be top!

THPS4 is great and all but Hot Shots 3 to me is better considered I hate golf with a purple passion yet I can sit and play for hours. As far as Multi-player of the know its true.
