I went to BW3 here in Houston to watch football, and ended up staying until the beginning of the PPV thanks to overtime in the SF game. I decided to stay and drink and party with the WWE fans that came in. I will tell you this:

*Kane is over
*The tag team 3-way was over huge, though the Benoit/Angle argument could have used a ref pull-apart to get it over more
*The women's match had more attention than I ever thought it could get
*Booker is over
*Nidia is more over than Kidman or Jamie Noble
*Brock is over HUGE!!!!!
*Judging by how many people chanted with BPP, WCW is still in people's memory

Just hanging with people who are not "smart", was refreshing. People were actually just enjoying the matches. Reacting like they were there to be entertained. I mean, when Show went over, I was thinking, "They are just trying to get Brock Huge over as a face by having him chase Show for the title," but the crowd was just booing and screaming, "That is BS!!!".

I kind of envied them a bit. But buy the end of the show, and the Chamber match, I was marking out for all the bumps and HBK's win like a FAN. I wasn't worried about the political ramifications of The Book or RVD getting eliminated early. Though I did notice that HHH was injured. It looked to me like HHH should have rolled out further so RVD could hit the 5-star and the spot went downhill from there.

I always thought that the net crowd is too cynical and tonight really hit me in the face with that fact. I am cynical too, but I am thankful I got to be a "Mark" again tonight.

I watched Survivor Series in a lounge in downtown Winnipeg, and everyone was marking out for Jericho. They all thought he was going to win the *ahem* "title."

Also,

- The Dudley reunion was very well received

- The F5 on Big Show got a HUGE pop

- Everyone cringed when RVD took that massive DDT from Triple H

Oh yeah . . . Thankfully, Kane wasn't over in the least bit. It's nice to enjoy a PPV with other people who recognize that moron as a colossal waste of space.

Hey skillz, I had a chance to watch with a group of pure marks tonight as well. My 18 year old sister and a couple of her friends happened to be at my home tonight, and for whatever reason got sucked into various points of the card. A few of their responses:

-When watching RVD flying around "whoa, that was pretty cool." "how did he do that?" and "what's with the thumbs thing?" They were severely pissed off at him being out of the match.

-Much like hardened smarks, there was no HHH love as one girl said "his yell sounds like a dying boar or something."

-HBK was no longer the sex symbol he was once pushed as, as the comments on him were "who's the old guy with the heart on his ass?" "what's with the goofy dancing?" and "does he think he's cool? he just looks old."

-Rey Mysterio was by far the favorite of the girls watching, as they made many comments about wanting one of their own Rey Rey's to take home and cuddle.

I watch PPVs at a pub, generally surrounded by drunks, marks, and the most annoying of all (marks aren't annoying to me but drunks are), the guy who think he knows everything and insists on commentating along with the PPV. However, it's always entertaining and nice to have the marks there--it helps me judge whether what WWE is trying to do is working. I like to think the IWC is important but I'm fairly sure WWE plays to the marks, not us.

When I watch with a mark, I usually watch with my sister. She's recently taken an intrest in the backstage going ons (because I know what's happening and she is curious) which I find disturbing. It's bad enough with me being cynical and jaded...

A note: She's been a WWF/E fan for many years, although only casually, she never watched WCW and still doesn't know what ECW was. She tries to watch every week, but doesn't really mind if she has to fall back on me for results. She likes Smackdown more because the stories are currently better, but thinks that RAW is funnier. I thought I'd give a brief overview of one mark's perspective on each segment tonight.

Her thoughts:

Bubba/Spike/Jeff w/D-Von v. Three Minute Warning

She liked the match, and was happy and surprised to see D-Von with Bubba again. She says that she didn't like D-Von's current "angle" which makes me cringe. I've got to stop saying things like that.

Billy Kidman v. Jamie Knoble w/ Nidia

She hate hate hates Noble, and thinks that Nidia is a ho. She thinks that Billy Kidman's new tights are better than his plain old grey ones. I comment that they're better than when he wore jean shorts, she thinks I mean Noble, and then I have to go over Billy's WCW career. She's happy that Kidman won, but I get the feeling that she doesn't much care about the cruisers.

Backstage with Kurt and Chris

She thinks Kurt Angle is hillarious.

Victoria v. Trish Stratus

She thinks that the match was "weak", but is intrested when I say Jazz may come back soon to feud with Trish.

Backstage with Show, Eric, Paul E. and Brock

She's more interested in the news that X-Pac and Chyna are getting married.

Big Show v. Brock Lesner

"So why is Big Show main-eventing again?" She thinks Brock is better off without Heyman, and got screwed out of the title. More intrested in a possible re-match than in the fact that Brock just got beat by the Big Show.

Eddie/Chavo v. Kurt/Chris v. Edge/Rey

She thought that Edge/Rey were going to/should have won. She didn't seem to be very into Eddie/Chavo, but was marking out left and right for Angle/Benoit interaction.

Steiner Debuts

She didn't watch any of his WCW stuff, but immediately labled him as a badass. "He should be on RAW. They need somebody like him." When prompted, she said that she was most interested in a Steiner/HBK or Steiner/HHH match, when she asked me, I said "Booker T." "Why?" "Because they wrestled a bunch of times in WCW right near the end...It was pretty good..." "Isn't that when it went out of business? I'd rather see him wrestle HHH." I guess Booker isn't over with my sister.

Elimination Chamber

I was right. She cheered for Van Dam and HBK. Booker and Kane were alright, though Kane was killed dead by the Vick angle. She likes Booker, but doesn't think he could beat any of the other people in the match. Jericho and HHH are over as heels, Jericho because he should "shut up" and HHH because he's "stupid". Both she and I were marking out for Shawn's win, but she was the first to ask, "So...Can he still wrestle?" I suggested that he'd forfit the title and there'd be a tournament, and she seemed pretty happy with that idea.

We had a good time. It's certainly refreshing watching the show with somebody who doesn't automatically hand out workrate reports or talk about the politics of the decisions. I realize that she's probably not representative of ALL the marks out there, but I just thought I'd share one particular line of thought. She's already planning on ordering the next PPV and has a tape cued up for RAW.

It was fun. I'd invite you over for next month, but Philly and Chicago are a bit of a drive from each other It was interesting having some females in the room, as generally PPV's for me are a frighteningly testosterone-driven affair, especially after 6 hours of football this time of year.

The Wifey and I went and watched it at a sports bar(first PPV since I turned 21), and even though she's becoming a pretty hardcore wrestling fan, she's not a smart by any means.

She HATED Shawn Michaels, HATED him winning, especially since her 3 favorite RAW people(HHH, Booker T, and RVD) lost. Said he looked like a big queer, and, something I agreed, that his haircut looked AWFUL. She didn't like Edge and Rey Mysterio losing at all, she cheered when the Big Show won, and thought it was bullshit that Victoria won, even though I explained it was neccessary for Trish to be in the chase.

For my birthday, my fiancee took me to see the ppv at one of those auditorium-style movie theatres in Birch Run, MI. The place was sold out. She's watched WWE with me, but has no knowledge of "inside" stuff or anything. Among her observations:
- loves Rey Mysterio and thought the tag match was great until the end, which was "a letdown"
- Thought the opening table match was great.
- Thought that HBK wouldn't win the EC match because "he's just way too gay-looking."
- Thought the EC match was too long, and had too many of the same moves over and over.
- She was getting progressively more aggravated with the endless recaps of feuds during the show, especially since we sat through them all during the PPV preview show.

Overall, she enjoyed the show, but only because we made fun of some of the really scary people there with their wrestling shirts and wrestling caps, and fake title belts, talking about "what they heard on the internet" about Goldberg showing up...

i once watched an episode of Raw with my father and his friend in between MNF..Quotes of the night:

What the hell is that guy doing to the girl in the coffin?

Is Booker T still wrestling?

Trish has nice tits.

Is Hulk Hogan still wrestling? (Upon hearing the answer they both laughed.)

Rob Van Dam Van Dam (their words) kicks ass.

And finally....

Where the fuck is The Rock?

I probably will go to a bar every month now for PPVs. It is fun. Hanging with the marks is a blast. They were even chanting, "You suck" during the Angle entrance. The It was tremendous.
