If this doesn't go to prove how far behind the times I am, I'm not sure that much else will. I recently picked up a reconditioned Sega Dreamcast. I now have it with me in my new apartment in semi-rural Central Florida.

The only catch is, I have no games to play on it yet. And as far as I can tell, the stores that are in town have maybe two or three Dreamcast games. Also, it doesn't help that I'm at least an hour away from a Best Buy or a Circuit City.

Do any fellow Wieners have any suggestions on good places in Central Florida or good resources online to buy games (used or new) such as Resident Evil: Codename Veronica, the DOA series, Marvel vs. Capcom, and other fun stuff like that? Any other games I should be aware of for Dreamcast?

Any help that any of you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Go check out eBay. My roomate is still in LOVE with his Dreamcast, and picks up games from there all of the time. Pretty cheap, too.
As far as Dreamcast games go, I always liked Crazy Taxi, Episode I Podracer, and the tennis games...

I would definitely check out eBay and Amazon.com. You can get a lot of games for between $5 and $10 - and most of them are at least 80% as good as the games for the new systems.

NFL2k2 and NHL2k2 are both really good if you don't mind the older rosters.

Check out the emulation scene - I know there are emulators for NES, Sega Master System, MAME, and others... most of the games look really good on the Dreamcast. These games alone make it worth picking up a DC.

DOA2, Soul Calibur, and Hydro Thunder are all on my all-time list.

I mostly got mine so I could play NesterDC. Being able to play all the hacks and translated games on a real TV, with a real controller, is worth it. And if you're into skating games, your life will not be complete without your very own copy of Jet Grind Radio. Sonic Adventure is basically Mario 64, only with a little more replay value, because there's six characters instead of just one, and they each have pretty unique missions.

EDIT: When I got my DC (used, for about $50), it came with a broken controller. The plug pulled away from the cord when I tried unplugging it. Is it worth fixing? I hate to throw out an otherwise good controller... And if so, where would I go?

Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Sonic Adventure 2, and Shenmue are a few more games to look for.

Samba de Amigo is a cool game if you can get a good pair of maraccas. Its monkey madness.

You really really really really want Fire Pro Wrestling D (an import). Put about ten more "reallys" in there.

Among others, consider Bomberman Online, Crazy Taxi, Chu Chu Rocket, DDR 2nd Mix (import), Guilty Gear X, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Metropolis Street Racer, NFL/NHL2K2, Record of Lodoss War, Rez (import), Project Justice: Rival Schools 2, Skies, Soul Calibur (a MUST), Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (import), and Worms World Party.

You're really gonna need to get your hands on an Innovation Super Game Converter. That lets you play Japanese or European games on your Dreamcast. Then you need to buy a VGA Box so you can play them on your monitor. Once that's done you really really really really really really need to import Fire ProWrestling D. It's the best wrestling game ever made. If you're an old school gamer you're going to need to get Ikaruga. It's a top down shooter with MAD DIFFICULTY. It looks beautiful if you use a VGA Box and turn the monitor on the side for the correct aspect ratio. I think you'll be able to find all that at www.NCSX.com

Frame Gride (import) -- it's Armored Core but with swords and magical gems that you can combine for power ups...

If you have a Dreamcast, you OWE it to yourself to play Skies of Arcadia and Grandia II. Skies has probably the single most unique setting and premise in RPG history, and Grandia II has NO DOUBT the best battle system ever concieved by modern man.

Jet Grind Radio is fun as hell, and I'm by no means into skating games. Shenmue is good for fighter fans, those in love with kung fu movies, fans of classic Sega arcade games, people looking for an example of life in modern Japan, and RPG fans looking for something different. Phantasy Star Online is a great action RPG, and Chu Chu Rocket is an awesome party game. Of course, you can't beat Sonic. The Dreamcast also has a scary lineup of Capcom/SNK 2D fighters, as well as Rival Schools 2 and Soul Caliber: the best 3D fighter ever made. If you're into racing, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer titles are a must, and Sega GT is a decent attempt at Gran Turismo. For shooters, Starlancer is about as close as you'll get to Colony Wars, otherwise it's best to import.

I keep hearing about the emulator stuff, but I've never tried it. Can someone explain the process?

Yeah, that's the place.

As someone who's tried out many of the emus:

* StellaDC (Atari 2600) works very well. The last version I tried didn't have paddle-games supported, but I believe there is a newer version that does support them.

* [D]ColEm (ColecoVision) is just fine.

* DCemu-atari800 (Atari 800/5200) plays a ton of games, but the GUI leaves something to be desired (you may have to do some twiddling/guessing to get some games to work properly). Still well worth the download.

* NeoPoccottDC (NeoGeo Pocket Color) doesn't support many games, nor does it have sound, but some games are playable. (CardFighter's Clash has scrambled sprites -- pity.)

* NesterDC is an AWESOME NES/Famicom/Famicom Disk System emulator.

* The only Genesis emulator I've tried has been a hacked version of the Sega Smash Pack disc -- it was a little slow and the sound was wonky.

* DreamSNES works, but most games are lagging in frame-rate -- if you're playing an RPG, that may be fine, but action games will suffer.

* You can compile and burn (PC) Quake for Dreamcast, if you have the full WADs. Other id-games (Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Quake II, Spear of Destiny, etc.) are also in progress. You can also compile in some mods (like the morningstar-grappling hook, or skins) for Quake... muahaha.

Check out your local pawn shops. I've found lots of good games for my Dreamcast for under 20 bucks. Memory cards and extra controllers are usually dirt cheap there, too.

OMG, i forgot about that.... RoLW...

Did anyone play Dragon Force for the Saturn? did they have anything like that for the DC or PS 1 or 2? [final fantasy tactics is the only thing that i found that was close, and that has to be my all time fav game, with DF right behind at #2]

Armada was pretty good. I wonder if that PS2 sequel will ever be released.

Dragon Force was definitely the best strategy/RPG I ever played. It's the only reason I've kept my Saturn this long... hoping to find a copy somewhere...

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I finally got off my butt and registered for an Ebay account, and I already have a copy of D-2 and Resident Evil:Codename Veronica that I bought for $14.50 (including S&H) from there. And thanks for the tip about checking out pawn shops. There are a few in this area, so I may just go check 'em out, out of curiousity. I'm also a musician, so it might not be a bad place to check for musical instruments, too.

Anyway, thanks again, everyone! :-)

Pawn shops are just as good, if not better places to find musical instruments, at least in my experience.
