| #1 Posted on 23.1.02 2334.18 Reposted on: 23.1.09 2338.30 | So here's the question plaguing me right now. Tickets went on sale for Gorillaz playing at a local venue. I love the album, and normally this would be a no-brainer to go see. But then I remember that they're a quasi-imaginary group pulled out of Damon Albarn's ass. And I ask "who the HELL will playing if I go see this show?" Has anyone actually seen them live or heard about what the hell their live shows will/are actually like? (who's there, who's not, etc.)

They probably throw in some kind of surprises to actually make people want to go see that. Unless the tix are monster cheap or you are insanely obsessed with them, I wouldn't bother. Then again, this could be the greatest concert ever, but I doubt it. Also, this was what I heard a few months ago, so it may have changed.

I`m going to see them in Philly, but I`m probably getting in for free. It`s sort of a one-time-only thing. It`s apparently not cheap to put on their show, so who knows if they`ll do it again. | Qubber

I personally haven't seen them live, but given what all I've heard, Qubber's assessment sounds like what I'd expect of it, since they're animated or something like that.
I'd say decide based on the price, now that you know what it's like. | DJ FrostyFreeze

They're playing at the Aragon (moved from the Riv, must have sold out or something) on March 3. And I'm out in the burbs too, so I have to be real enticed to make the trip downtown, like with Tortoise playing the Empty Bottle on 2/8.

Gorrilaz always play like that (Blur, Damon's other band, play like a regular band). It's part of a semi-pretentious "if music's all about image, then here's the ultimate image only band" concept Damon dreamt up with Jamie Hewland. So you never actually get to see the musicians behind Gorrilaz, since they're not essential to the concept.
Still a good gig to see though. Different, but good different. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
