Welcome to Gugspeak, the only column I know of that can be inspired at the drop of a hat! Today's topics: What I think of Triple H and Why I didn't do my Shawn Michaels piece that I promised last time.

I'm going to say it now, so that it may be recorded for posterity. Triple H is NOT the worst person on Earth. Triple H does NOT deserve to have any severe bodily harm inflicted upon him. Triple H is NOT Satan. Triple H IS a very solid worker, can be very good with the mic, and deserves very much to be at or near the top of the Raw brand. That being said, let's see how this Game plays out. Ooh, bad joke.

Workrate: B+

When motivated properly and placed with the right people, Triple H can pull off a ***** match. He can carry the right people to a *** or **** match. I enjoy his in-ring performances, especially when he is on the offensive. His slow, calculating maneuvers are just the thing to get a crowd riled up for the face, ultimately leading, of course, to the climactic tide turning. However, The Game has been known to fall into a rut where he only uses the same moves and his matches are virtually identical. For some of his better matches, I'd suggest that you look to 2000 and early 2001. The Iron Man Match with The Rock placed 4th in the 2000 RSPW awards for MOTY. Tripps was involved in 6 of the top 10 matches that year, including his HITC and Street Fight with Mick Foley, placing 3rd and 2nd respectively. His Last Man Standing Match with Chris Jericho was a 6th place finisher. His 10-man tag match (HHH, Benoit, Saturn, Malenko, X-Pac vs. Rock, Cactus Jack, Rikishi, Too Cool) was a 7th-place finisher, and his match-up with Benoit placed 8th. Triple H was voted the RSPW Wrestler of the Year for 2000, as he also successfully defended the title of Best Heel, won in 1999 and 2000. He finished 2nd in the Best Worker category, for crying out loud! I've said enough, and I haven't even mentiomned the two-out-of-three-falls match with Austin at NWO 2001. After his injury, he hasn't been the same, but he can be very, very good. Throw him in the ring with Angle or Benoit or Rock and he could amaze us all.

Mic Skills: B

Again, anyone who can win Best Heel two years in a row has to have good mic skills. Despite his injury, he placed second in the Best Heel category in 2001, and I am confident in his chances of success this year. Here's a direct quote from Michael Stakely: "I'm not a particularly big fan of HHH but the last few months have really made me miss a dominating heel whose name isn't McMahon." He's just...well...that damn good. He can-ah, as I have pointed out-ah, get lax-ah, and boring-ah, in his promos-ah, which is why-ah, he should be kept-ah, to backstage skits-ah, and not-ah, 10 to 20 minute promos-ah, so that he can utilize-ah, his potential. He can make a good segment great, and a great segment classic. He can also-ah, make a good-ah, segment bad-ah, and bad segment-ah, REALLY bad-ah. Give him some good lines in a skit with Jericho, Rock, Booker or Angle, and you've got yourself some GOLD, BABY!

Deservingness (that's not a word) of World Title: A+

Out of the entire Raw roster, there is NOBODY who would be better for the company as the World Champion right now than Triple H. Not Jericho, RVD, Booker or Kane, just Triple H. There is not a better believable strong heel on Raw than Triple H, and I don't see that changing any time soon. People say that he should not be in the main event. I'm saying that he should be, and that it is virtually impossible to lose your main event spot once you have it. People will say "What about Benoit & Jericho? They got screwed!" First off, Benoit broke his neck, which I STILL say is the ONLY reason he didn't win the WWF Title at KOTR 2001. Second, both Benoit and Jericho were stopgaps used to fill in for Rock, Undertaker and Triple H. Jericho did get to be the first ever Undisputed Champion, and that's a move that, in retrospect, I'm not all that fond of. I think if they wanted a heel champion, they should have put Angle over Austin and had him beat Rock in the finals. The first ever Undisputed Champion should at least be remembered as moderately strong, but instead we got the same guy we have now, except with a smaller belt. Anyway, there is NOBODY that I would rather see as the World Champion going into the Elimination Chamber than Triple H.

Moral Character: F

That being said, there is nobody I'd rather see as the World Champion coming OUT of the Elimination Chamber than Shawn Michaels. I do think that Triple H was (unfortunately or not) pulled into the Clique by HBK et al, and has learned well from them. Shawn Michaels is a textbook example of how getting in Vince's ear can get you and your friends much better opportunities than you and your friends' enemies. The Game has used his influence (or his great big penis) to get in the ear (or the...that's obscene) of Stephanie McMahon, thus gaining an in (that's also obscene) with the higher-ups. Some people will say that Tripps should step aside along with Undertaker, citing the fact that all old guys do eventually. That's not true. Triple H is not some 40+ year old guy who can't work unless given Angle and Benoit. Triple H is in the prime of his career and he has many years left. Let's just hope that the next years are better than the past years.

Moving on...

I didn't do my Shawn Michaels piece because it's 11:30 PM, I have a quiz in history tomorrow, and I have to be ready to go to Gardner (that's a long way away) at a moment's notice when they call me saying that I can pick up Ruthless Aggression. For all of those who don't know what that is, I leave you with this.

Contact your local comic book store or hobby shop, pretty much any plave that might sell Pokemon or Magic cards. Ask them if they carry WWE Raw Deal. If they do, buy stuff. Buy lots of stuff. It's a great game, you'll love it. If they don't, tell them that if they did, you would buy stuff. You would buy lots of stuff. It's a great game and you (along with dozens and dozens worldwide) love it.

Bye now,

Well said, gugs. I don't think anyone here, even the card-carrying HHHaters, have ever insisted that Triple H can't work under any circumstances. He just doesn't seem all that motivated to me, recently. But he can still go, given the right opponent and a good angle.

I may have to stop playing Raw Deal soon. When I was watching Smackdown a couple weeks ago when Heyman was giving Brock the "You can't beat the Big Show" speech I was totally hoping he'd say "You can't suplex him, your grapples only do 4D!"

I don't agree with his workrate. Just because he had good matches TWO YEARS AGO, doesn't give him a good workrate today. He had the chance to work with most of both rosters this year. His match with the Rock was forgetable, his match with the Undertaker was a worst match candidate. He also faced RVD, Jericho, Kane, and others without doing much. His poor moveset and the cheap-shot, pedigree finish are repetitive. One great match vs. Shawn Michaels does not give Triple H a good workrate.

Actually, you might have to pick up your Big Show card, because Brock's grapples only do 3D!

It's used to determine damage in Raw Deal, WWE's official card game. It's pretty fun; you should try it out.
