There's a thread in the basketball forum discussing how the wife of Sacramento King Doug Christie has him super-whipped.

A few of the alleged examples:

  • You know when Christie raises his arm, extends his pinky and index fingers and signals into the air? He's actually signalling "I love you" to his wife Jackie, something that happens 50-60 times a game, even during crunch-time.

  • The Christies remarry every year on their anniversary, not a mere renewal of their wedding vows but an actual wedding -- replete with friends, family, cake and a reception.

  • Mrs. Christie attends 25-30 of the Kings road games, always riding on the team charter. She sends him a note in the locker room before every game, taken there by a team attendant. He writes a reply and sends it back. Sometimes on the road, Jackie will ride in a car behind the team bus, talking to Doug until he arrives at the hotel or arena.

It sounds to me like she got him ALL in check (WOO HAA), but it got me to thinking: What if he likes it that way? I mean, what if they're both SO into each other, neither of them would have it any other way?

So my question is, if your wife/girlfriend has you whipped, but you dont mind it or maybe you even like it that way, is it still considered being "whipped"?

Personally, I think it's nice what he does for his wife. Then again, I'm probably biased.

I kn ow for certain it wouldn't happen with me. My girlfriend tries to get me to do completely ridiculous stuff from time to time. I laugh at her. Then again, I suppsose sometimes I do the same thing and she laughs at me. I'm not sure what the hell I'm trying to saying. But what Christies does is sad. But then again, if it makes him tick, god bless him.

That's why Bill Simmons (ESPN's Page 2) suggests giving a Doug Christie jersey to your friend(s) who is/are deemed to be "whipped"

A full wedding every year is a bit much. When I got married, I wanted to elope rather than jump through the 1,375 wedding-and-reception hoops, but I got outvoted 1-to-1 by my fiancee. Once was a little more than enough.

But if doing all sorts of little things to keep my wife happy is being "whipped," I'll gladly wear that as a badge of honor. She's generally easy to please, but I spoil her anyway; not only do I like seeing her happy on general principles, but a happy wife has a multitude of ways of brightening MY day as well.

If both parties involved are into the relationship and want to do such things for one another by their own choice, than I would not consider that being "whipped". In this particular case, I wouldn't necessarily consider the Christie's to be whipped. Maybe a little over the top, but to each their own. If they are happy with one another, to hell with everyone else.

I have always deemed a person to be "whipped" if they do the things they do for their other half not because they want to, but because they feel that if they don't they will get into a fight or get into trouble.

I am not sure I would call that whipped- rather OBNOXIOUS. Nice that they are all into one another and all... but damn... tone it down a bit, at least insofar as it involves other people. I would not go to a wedding EVERY YEAR for my friend... nor would I put up with having the guys WIFE around constantly while I was travelling for work...

I wonder if the guests give them wedding presents or envelopes every year too ? The wedding registry list must be huge.

That's not whipped. That's two people HUGELY into each other. Like Pool-Boy said, it's gotta be a bit obnoxious for everyone else, but that's not being whipped, and it's fuckin' pathetic that people say it is.

"Whipped" is being dominated, unwillingly, into doing things that're against your nature, and doing them ONLY because your other half wants you to. Being "whipped" is a good sign that you're not in a real relationship. If his wife wasn't going so far out of her way to be with him, if HE was doing all the work and going to all the effort? THEN he'd be whipped. As it is? They're just that annoying couple who can't get enough of each other, to the point of being in danger of alienating everyone else. It's not necessarily a good thing, but it's their lives.

Did anyone see the fight Christie was in the other night? His wife actually came to try and help him out. I thought that was humorous after all the stuff I've read by Simmons about the "Christie jersey". Then to see him get in a relly weird fight with Rick Fox, and his wife jumps to help defend him. Where was Vanessa Williams?

She's not dumb. She's staking claim to her man while he's on the road amidst a sea of groupies. Poor woman just doesn't wanna catch herpes. :)

What! All I'M saying is I havent seen that old "Jump in a fight your man is having" ISH since like junior high.

If Jeff Foxworthy was telling "You KNOW you're ghetto if..." jokes, that would deffinitely be on the list.

Maybe he only does that to get her to shut the fuck up. The locker room attendant probably writes those notes for him. Like he got notihng else to do!

Yeah, how about this? She won't let any woman interview him unless she is around. She didn't even want any woman around him while he was changing after a match, so guess what? He changes in a totally different room.

    He is *so* whipped.
