This is why Robbie Fulks is one of my heroes. From his website:

October 17th, 2002
piss off ryan adams, win a prize!
Site user HiramW1 was the first to report the following amusing anecdote:

"Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams is not amused by the similarity of his name to Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. At a Ryan Adams concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday, someone in the audience yelled out a request for Summer of '69, a Bryan Adams hit. Ryan Adams, former leader of the band Whiskeytown, reacted with a stream of expletives and ordered the house lights turned on. The alternative country musician found the fan who made the joke request, paid him $30 as a refund for the show, ordered him to leave and said he wouldn't play another note until that happened. The auditorium's general manager, Pam Matthews, stopped the fan on his way out, "apologized profusely" and allowed him back into the concert. The fan kept Adams's $30."

We here at RobbieFulks.Com find that just too damn funny. So much in fact that Robbie made this offer:

"Any reader on this site who attends a Ryan Adams show and disrupts the show with a Bryan Adams song request will receive in return merchandise of his or her choice, equal to the cost of the ticket, from my online store. You're on the honor system, necessarily; but please provide the date and location of the show, what you yelled, and what Ryan's reaction was."

Not only does Robbie bring the alt-country joy so good (and better than even Whiskeytown dreamed of doing), but he's a snide and cruel bastard. I like that a lot :)

I don't see what Ryan Adams is so upset about. Who wouldn't want to be compared to a member of Kronik?

Seriously, if Adams takes this so seriously, he should've taken a damn stage name in the first place.

More on Ryan Adam's Nashville concert, from The Tennessean:

Rocker and one-time Nashvillian Ryan Adams made quite an impression at his Ryman show Monday night. Tennessean music writer Peter Cooper described an incident in which Ryan went off on a guy who jokingly requested a Bryan Adams song, a story that now has been reported around the world. Peter also wrote a less-than-flattering review.

Ryan left Peter a less-than-flattering voice mail. Here 'tis:

''You're just so smart, aren't you, man? You're so (expletive) smart. 'I'm so smart. I'm so post-collegiate with all my (expletive) little references.' 'Punkish hardcore.' What about 'Quintessential (expletive) band,' moron?

''What the (expletive) is wrong with you? Little redneck newspaper. Ooh, The Tennessean. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. You wouldn't know a (expletive) good show if it bit you in the (expletive).

''You and your senior citizen, little redneck (expletive) (expletive). Whatever, you know? Let's like let's create it, let's judge it, you know? Like, 'Let's turn it into what it's supposed to be.' But you don't know (expletive). You and your (expletive) (expletive) paper. (Expletive) you.''

Those interested can Click Here to see the article on The Tennessean's web site. Those wishing to read the review by Peter Cooper which triggered Mr. Adams' response can Click Here.
