"Imitation of Life" was fantastic, "Losing My Religion" reminded us it could be art. Actually, most of REM's stuff was pretty revolutionary when they wanted it to be (I have a soft spot for "Crush with Eyeliner")

And lest we forget, Weird Al has an undeniable gift for the medium, with "Fat" and "Eat it" being the high water marks.

Toto should be commended for even *making* videos despite being the single ugliest group of men in recorded history.

My all time favorite though would have to be the aforementioned "Separate Ways". A disused warehouse. The hair, the white pumps. Ross Valory and Steve Smith looking longingly into one another's eyes. The zoom on Neal Schon so that we think he's tough. Jonathan Cain adjusting his sleeve 'just so' during the first chorus, only to later dismissively flip his hand at the screen during the solo. And it was all a dream.

Or was it?!?

Nothing will, nothing *can*, top "Separate Ways".

Yeah, Numb was a pretty good video. Also Discoteque.

U2 made lots of good videos.

EDIT: Almost forgot, Moby's "We Are Made Of Stars" is another very good video.

Get ready to hit the wayback button:

Motorhead 'Killed by Death' - Lemmy driving a motorcycle out of a grave was to much for MTV back in the mid-80's.

Megadeth 'Peace Sells' and 'Anarchy in the UK'

I loved many of the videos on this list but had to add the Tool videos.

"Sober", "Prison Sex", and "Stinkfist" all beat the ass.

NIN "Closer" may have led to a lot of bad imitations being made, but it was amazing at the time.

I can't believe that the Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" and Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" haven't gotten props yet. Unbelievable...

I'd also like to throw out there for sheer comedic value The Ass Ponys "Little Bastard" and MC 900 Foot Jesus for "If I Only Had a Brain".

I can't watch "Amish Paradise" without laughing. That and Weezer's "Buddy Holly" video are hilarious. FL brought up "Fish Heads", and I always had a soft spot in my heart for that. "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads...I never got it, but I always liked it. Fave has to be "One Step Beyond" by Madness.

Anyone remember "Dog Police"?

Don't know if they are that well known in the US, but Feeder did an awesome video for "Just a Day". They got members of their fanclub to video themselves in their bedrooms jumping around, playing air guitar and generally arseing about, then cut the best videos together. It's got some really funny moments in it, such as a group of lads stopping the tape to get a quick drink and then continuing and a girl pushing her mate out of camera to get her big cheesy grin in.

Forgot about Weezer's "Buddy Holly." That was a cool video.

I wish MTV2 would have one of those 100 Greatest Videos shows, instead of Hip-Hop Weekend.

Feeder had a minor hit in "High" here and hasn't had any other success. In fact, "Polythene"'s been their only album released her, as "Insomnia" flopped so bad that "Yesterday Came Too Soon"'s US released was nixed, even with the single out. A shame, really.

NWA's "Straight Outta Compton."

I loved when the guys ran from the CPD and Eazy took off running down an alley by himself to get away.

Of course, I was 12 years old at the time, which would explain why it's engrained in my head.
