I feel stupid asking, but as Mr. Garrison says, "There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people."
I have my PS2 plugged into my VCR, and then the cable plugged from my TV to the VCR, so the VCR is the middle-man (I use those nifty white/yellow/red plugs for the PS2-VCR connection). Will DVDs work with my PS2 since it goes through the VCR? I have many telling me "No way, dumbass", and others telling me "Of course they will play."

As long as you can use the PS2 and see a picture, you should be able to play DVDs on the PS2 and see them on the TV. I've got something similar on my second TV - a DVD player hooked up to a VCR, which is hooked up to the TV (the TV only had a cable jack, not the color-coded plugs necessary to hook up the DVD player directly).

The only problem you may have is the picture not being quite as sharp as if you plugged the PS2 directly to the TV for DVD viewing. I have noticed that most DVD players including game consoles used to watch DVD's don't show as clearly when hooked thru a VCR due to some type of copywrite protection embedded in the disc. The picture tends to darken and lighten as it is played.... Or maybe it is just me, but I have noticed this on all of the players I have owned. I keep the "middleman" out when hooking up my DVD players just b\c the contrast change annoyed the hell out of me.

The only problem you may run into when it comes to watching movies with this setup, besides the ps2 not playing some movies (not many, but some), is the macrovision copy protection, which has already been mentioned. Sometimes it's not a problem (mostly depends on your vcr), but if you see the picture lightening and darken while playingh (like tinman said), then that's what's goin' on.
