On top of Kid Kash wrestling for two Gateway Championship Wrestling shows later this month, it's now been announced by David Rogers on the gatewaywrestling.com message board that Balls Mahoney will be appearing at those two shows as well. At the October 25th show at Aggies' in St. Louis, Kash will face "The Irish Luchador" Billy McNeil and Mahoney will face D'Mon G in a rematch from a GCW show in November 2001. At the October 26th show in DeSoto, MO, Kash faces Delirious and Balls faces Diamond Back Dingo.

Originally posted by Scorpio So, do you work for them? I'm just curious.
I write columns for their website(www.gatewaywrestling.com) and the promotional material at their house shows. I also take photographs at the shows and the promoter buys the doubles from me to use in the promotional material and on the videotape cases. So in a sense, yes, I do work for them.
I don't make much from it...I do the column-writing for free, and the money for the photos basically just makes up the difference for getting doubles. I pay for my ticket at the door just like any other fan. I hype their stuff not because of monetary compensation, but because I think they're entertaining. Take that however you wish.
All I ask is that you give them a shot if you live in the area...if it's not to your liking, that's fine. At least then you've made the judgement based on having seen the product, rather than on rhetoric you may have heard about independent wrestling.

I'm a non-GCW-related person who will back up PowerPB13's hype of GCW. I've caught their television show on a couple of different trips to St. Louis.
It was a good old-fashioned local promotion with an ECW-style presentation and similar low-brow production value. It was shot at the "GCW Arena", which appears to be an old two-bay quick-lube they painted solid black from top to bottom. The seating for fans must have been like twenty or thirty. They did every bit as good a job of making the place look a lot bigger and a lot more full of fans as WTCG/WTBS did with Georgia Championship Wrestling back in the day.
It obviously wasn't the best wrestling program I've ever seen, not even close. But it was still a half hour of solid fun and mayhem that was refreshing to see in comparison to what WWE had on the air at the time (last Spring).
It runs on cable access around the region so check your listings. If you know a tape trader with some episodes, maybe you could check them out for yourself.
As an aside, I wouldn't mind seeing people talk about their local/regional promotions more. You might give others in your area the realization they have local shows they could be going to they didn't even know about. And the more successful they are, the better off the wrestling business is in the long run.

The TV show is nice for getting some fans who might not ordinarily be able to attend a show...it's only a half-hour and the matches are a condensed version of what you get at your typical GCW house show.
If I could recommend a few shows, I'd recommend:
-The first anniversary show(headlined by RVD vs. Nova and with a solid undercard below it) -The "TLC X-Mas" show from last December with a cool Billy McNeil vs. Diamond Back Dingo TLC match, plus Delirious vs. Matt and Mike Sharona vs. OuTtKaSt. -A lot of their "Adults F'n Only" shows, where the language and violence barriers are out the window and the wrestlers get a chance to cut loose...my personal favorite AF'NO match was a hair vs. hair ladder match between Ryan Ash and OuTtKaSt at their "Dismember In December" show last year. -Midwest Mania from November 2001, which had Balls vs. Big Bad Ben and Kash vs. Nova, plus Sharona vs. Jack Adonis, a four-corner match with Ash vs. Matt vs. Delirious vs. OuTtKaSt, and McNeil vs. Dingo in an "Irish Table Dance"(best-of-three-tables).
More when I can think of it.
