| I have just been in a WWE whirlwind the last couple of days. Monday night, I road-tripped down to Tucson for the Smackdown-cast house show. Got home & watched the Raw Roulette episode that I'd taped. Then Tuesday night I went to the Smackdown taping in Phoenix. Wheeeeee! |
The Tucson show was so much fun. The guys really do go all out to do a good show, even when its for a small crowd.
I could probably do a full-out show report, but short of that, there were a couple of miscellaneous things of particular interest to this forum.
There were some of the guys that usually get a big "eh" from me, that were really good in front of a smaller, live audience. Albert, in that setting, was the heel of the night. Trash-talking with the audience, selling the match.
Billy Kidman doesn't usually do a lot for me on TV. He does a nice job, but nothing thrilling. In that show, he was wonderful. He was working the crowd, he was running the match, he was messing with the announcers. He was so much more interesting than he usually comes across on TV. He's also much cuter than he looks on TV. (OK, there's an interesting-ness component of cuteness -- that may be part of it. But he's also just better looking in person.) And most important: those trunks that we hate that look like dirty, grey underwear look pretty cool in person. They're actually slightly shiny silver. I can imagine the poor boy looking in a mirror in the dressing room asking himself "For why do they hate my spiffy silver trunks?" Save the silver for house shows dear, & wear the black (or even the red) on TV.
Cena is another one that's better looking in person than on TV. Ripped! Ooh.
The main event was billed as a Kiss My Ass Match, featuring Rikishi & Kurt. I believe I've said before that I've seen more than enough of Rikishi's ass, so I wasn't really thrilled about this (ab)use of Kurt. What we wound up with was good.
Ultimately Rikishi managed a win. They’d both started out with promos, & Kurt had already told us that he’s not kissing anybody’s ass. So he put his hand out in a sportsmanlike gesture. They had a lovely congratulatory handshake, & Kurt started to leave, getting most of the way up the aisle. The ref gets on the mike, threatens Kurt if he’s not back in the ring by the 10-count. We all count. Kurt waits til 8½ before running back up the aisle to the ring. OK, Kurt’s gonna do it.
Kurt in the middle of the ring on his knees (Ooo-ooh!) sells the “I don’t want to do this” like mad. We get almost to the crucial moment, Kurt uppercuts Rikishi to the nuts. (Somehow, given the position, the phrase “delivers the low blow” just doesn’t sound right.) Kurt flips out & goes about beating on Rikishi. “You can kiss my ass”, & pulls down his singlet for a famous Angle Full Moon!! (Yeeaaah!) This is the second show I've seen in Tucson, & the second time I've seen Kurt's tush. I don't know why that is, but I'm definitely going to Tucson any time I know that Kurt's there!
Heels run in to help. Billy, Chuck & Rey-Rey do their run-in for the face rescue. General meyhem for a few minutes til the faces run off the heels.
Crowd is going wild, as we line up for the floor show. We get just a bit of a crescent moon from Rey, who didn’t look real comfortable, but was doing fine. We got about a half moon from Billy, who was working those shiny, Tiffany blue trunks. Unfortunately, Chuck was eclipsed by Rikishi from my perspective, so I can’t report details, but he's a decent Chippendale’s dancer. I was actually hoping for a full line-up of full moons, but I guess the rest of the boys were too embarrassed to do that.
Oh, there was wrestling too! Fun, fun fun show. I was grinning all the way back to Phoenix!
