| #1 Posted on 9.10.02 2258.26 Reposted on: 9.10.09 2258.43 | I was reading the thread below about a possible Jericho/Christian tag team, and began thinking about Jericho's entrance and theme music.
While, I like Jericho a lot in the ring and doing promos, I am having trouble getting over the Y2J thing. It is getting close to 2003 and he is still being referred to as Y2J, both in name and entrance theme. I am taking a guess that changing entrances is more of the writers decision than the wrestler, but someone needs to get Jericho a fresh new idea.
One of the many possibilities is to play up his current persona, and have his entrance reflect the fact that he is the self proclaimed "King of the World and a Huuuuuuge Rock Star".
No offense to Trish fans out there, but how is it that Trish got new music while Jericho still has the countdown to the millenium bug? I refuse to believe that it could be Triple H holding him down this time (that was tongue in cheek for those who take things too seriously).
Comments are welcome. Who knows, maybe I have strange tastes and everyone else doesn't want him to change a thing.
P.S. This post was meant as an observation, not as a fullblown critism. I fully realize that Jericho's entrance music is not going to have any huge impact on my enjoyment of the show. | Promote this thread! | | DarrylTheHitman

Lance Storm explained the "Y2J" thing one time on his website. It's easy to chant when he's a face. "Jericho Sucks" is just as easy to chant, so if they wanted to get rid of the Y2J moniker now's the time to do it.

Thank you!
Every time I see the letters "Y2J" I think "outdated" -- I wouldn't think that'd be an association the fed would want me to make. And the countdown still says "countdown to the millenium" to me.
In the video, the crotch highlighting sillouette is kinda cool. But every time when he comes out & poses in front of it, the thought that runs through my mind is "the real thing is sure a lot smaller than the image". Again, although that's got some lovely literary irony, I wouldn't think that'd be desirable for a Superstar.
And to tell you the truth, I just now had to toss a tape in the VCR to remind me what his entrance music is. Oh yeah -- that's right. There's nothing wrong with it, but clearly it isn't real memorable to me! It sure doesn't feel to me like the right style for "I'm a rock star."

| #7 Posted on 10.10.02 0428.42 Reposted on: 10.10.09 0429.03 | As the resident Trish mark no offense taken =) Trish wanted new music for a long time now. She's said a few times she wasn't crazy about her generic entrance. And in the spring of this year while co-hosting on MuchMusic she said she's a big hip-hop fan (errr I guess not even Trish is perfect ..lol) and said she's a big fan of Lil' Kim. And herself with the WWE is trying to have Kim write up/ give permission to a song. Umm don't really know about Trish's new song, it's a nice song (for hip-hop) I like the little giggle before the song hits. But it just doesn't seem to have enough zip to it to be a cool entrance song... Why didn't she just get her best friend Lilian to sing one for her (buy her CD in stores now). I think Lilian sung Torrie's song which I think it's the best of the females.
I like the sevendust version also. I still like the countdown with the wide view, delay and explotion and the crucify pose. It's unique. I do think it really works better when he's really over, when there's a lot of buzz in the arena and everyone standing all that stuff is really cool... I really like his old entrance better, from the look of the countdown clock, to the quicker music and louder vocals, to the shots of NYC and the silhouette of the stripp errr I mean club dancer when she stretched her arm in the air and huge letters spelling "JERICHO" appears and then goes back to her dancing. That was a very cool entrance. This one now is kinda lame, I like the wormhole but the Jericho outline walking around ain't that great.
Seeing that Trish pushed to get new music half a year ago and got it (eventually) and even got the singer she wanted maybe wrestlers do have a bit more say on stuff like this. I'm guessing the more important you are to the company you would probably have more say. I doubt fresh faced rookies would have much luck dictating his entrance. But someone of Jericho stature probably does.
edit in: I don't know if Jericho's entrance is that outdated, the thing is this week had to follow the return of the most over the top spectacular entrance in the WWE. Christiaaan Christiaaaan at last you're on your owwwwwn! =)

1) Once he turns face again - which should be soon - go back to the old images of the countdown, city and club dancer, but add shots of Jericho posing - especially the crucify pose. The ME ME ME image still has to be there after he turns.
2) For God's sake, put the Sevendust music in! It's so much more badass and SWANK than what he's got now. I have no earthly idea why they didn't do it when the album came out - it fits his heel persona so much better than what he's got now. | Parts Unknown

It scared the piss out of me when I went to Raw last year...right after the countdown and swooshy thing, the big pyro hits...WHAM! I totally forgot it was there and it made my heart jump. His entrance is a real attention-getter (which Jobbercho certainly needs right now). I say leave it. I hate it when the WWE takes away good entrances like the "Rollin" entrance of the Undertaker...I can't believe they took it away and gave him the pile of crap he currently has. Chris Benoit's music was WAAAY better before OLP got ahold of it.

Y2J has been outdated since 2000, but I think that Stephanie still wishes she was living in the year 2000 and hasn't made any real effort to change anything in her losing formula since that time.
In 2000, HHH could actually lay claim to being o top of the wrestling industry, Stephanie was in her first year as being the head writer, and the ratings were actually up, and the McMahon family got reunited on TV to share the final moment of WM2K.
Ahhhh, 2000... Where have you gone? Someone please hand Stephanie her lithium. | Scorpio

I can see how you'd get an "HHH bashing" vibe out of my above post, but I had no intention of going after HHH.
I was really just bashing Stephanie and her strike force of Hollywood writers. Certianly, the production crew is to blame, too. What I was infering was that Stephanie can't evolve the WWE product in any way, shape, or form and that the writing in WWE has stayed pretty much the same way (read: "crappy") since she took over in 2000.
See, WWE Creative can't come up with any new ideas, so that's why Y2J still has that nickname.

First off, Benoit's music rocks because Canada's greatest alt rock band sings it. All hail OUR LADY PEACE! Cool how a Canadian group does a Canadian's anthem. Wonder if it's coincidence or if it was Benoit's request.
Myself, I don't understand how the Y2J thing still works, but I don't refer to Jericho as that. I call him Chris Jericho (duh!) and that's basically it. What else would we call him? Rock Star Chris Jericho? Chris King Jericho? What's in the mind of the WWE? Chris "HHH's bitch" Jericho? | Mr Heel II

It's not *that* much different - but they changed the percussion sounds and changed the guitar sounds and took out the phaser-type effects. It's still awesome, but it doesn't have as much edge to it anymore. It sounds like they took the guitar sounds from the Dudley's theme and used those to play Jericho's music.
To compare - listen to Jericho's theme on WWF the music Volume 4. It's his original mix - and it's much brighter and more antagonistic than his current mix.
