Here's an interesting story about the State Department's seeming laxity in handing Visa's to terrorist, complete with scanned applications.

Man that was the feel good story I needed this morning(sarcasm off...)

The fact of the matter remains that there was a massive breakdown in the visa issuance process. And that is just completely intolerable and unacceptable.

I finally got around to checking out those scanned visa applications today. That's just insane. My only guess is that before 9/11, our biggest reason to deny a visa application was if we were afraid they were only coming to America to sponge off a couple free social services, so the visa inspectors (or whatever their called) got real complacent(sp?) at their jobs.

Not that that's any excuse, that's just my guess.

This makes me wonder how "deserving" my fiancee is of her visa(she's Argentinian)

Well, Kaz, if she's engaged to you, I say get her the hell out of my country. (Kidding, of course).

I can see room for amibguity on some of these, but that leads to two questions:

1. Can we afford ambiguity on things like visa applications?
2. When the same guy submits three really different (and all suspect) applications, he's just got to be up to something. (Other than being a "teater" in "wasntwn").
