Robocop - Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith)
    * Utterly cold-blooded. Who can watch Red Forman on "That 70's Show" and not think of Boddicker blowing Murphy's hand off with a shotgun? (Give the man a hand - dumbass!)

I used to not be able to watch That 70's Show because I couldn't buy the psycho Clarence Boddicker as a grumpy dad. Now, I can't watch Robocop without waiting to see Clarence slap someone upside the head.

Charlie Chaplin in Monsieur Verdoux in the title role as the psychopathic killer (amazing portrayal)

Joseph Cotton as Uncle Charlie in Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (terrifying)

Gregory Peck as Dr.Josef Mengele in The Boys from Brazil (scarier than Olivier in Marathon Man)

Laurence Oliver in Richard the III (much more heelish than Ian McKellen)

edit: Joseph Cotten made it at 29 for Shadow of a Doubt (missed it on the list)

Y'all are totally on the ball when it comes to Clarence Boddicker. Another couple of movie bad guys that should have made the list: Liberty Valance from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, the best John Wayne movie ever. Angel Eyes from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. That was a glaring omission to me. Angel Eyes was a baaad man. Also Christopher Walken in King of New York, although he was kind of an anti-hero. And what about Pinhead from Hellraiser? He kicks the shit out of every other slasher movie icon. Gary Oldman as Dracula was really sinister as well. There are so many great bad guys out there. That list seemed kind of half-assed and biased towards new movies, IMHO. The Matrix was great spectacle, but the characters were ultimately cardboard cutouts to talk between kick-ass action scenes. I can't even remember the villain's name, for crying out loud, and Liberty Valance and Angel Eyes didn't even place? Fuck that. Either of them have more villainy in their pinkies than that asshole from the Matrix.
