Has anyone seen this show? I just watched it on my computer and thought it was great. I haven't seen any ads on WB or UPN for it. Is it just syndicated?

"For Fall 2002, Warner Brothers rolls out a television version of "Birds of Prey." This show differs from its comic book counterpart as well, perhaps more significantly and, at least in the case of the pilot, a little more detrimentally, than SMALLVILLE and JUSTICE LEAGUE. The story takes place in "New" Gotham (what makes it new isn't exactly clear yet, but hopefully we'll find out more in the future) with a flashback to a time when Batman was still protecting the city. "

More here.

Birds of Prey starts this Wednesday, 9/8 Central; it's the last WB program to debut.

On the flipside, I have a feeling Off Centre will be the first WB program to leave.

Off Centre is already a season old. They've already even blown their wad on the "American Pie" reunion episode.

Yeah, show starts this Wednesday. I hope its decent, but we shall see.

They are definately straying from the comic book continuity, but oddly enough, the spoilers sound like they are keeping in some details I expected them to change. And really, considering how good Smallville is, and how far afield it is, this is all OK in my book.

Here's a pretty thorough website.

(Oh, and apparently they mention why they don't wear costumes in the first episode. Which is *also* where we get a glimpse of Dina Meyer dressed as Batgirl! Rowr!)

Off Centre is a year old, but it's also drawing really crappy ratings. I'd be surprised if it lasts more than 13 weeks, the television equivalent of Three Minutes. Actually, I wonder if *any* of the shows on the WB Thursday would last that long.

How did you watch it? Is it on a web site? I've heard of movies being on the net before being released
but I never knew where they were or if you need special software to watch them.

I didn't even know it hadn't been aired yet. I had seen previews and it looked interesting. I got it with WinMX, a file sharing program. You can get music, programs, movies, TV shows etc on there. It was an avi which I watched on Windows Media Player. Some of the movies do require special codecs to be installed or even programs. I watch most of the movies on WinDVD 4.0.

So... out of the kindness of the wifey's heart while I was at the e.r. (long story)... got to see BoP on tape.

Very pleased with the premiere... and just hope that they tie up some loose ends (like Helena's eye-shift... which IMO reminds me of "Manimal," but that's a different whole bag, man).

I'm not the world's biggest comic book collector, but I did get "The Killing Joke" when it came out. Didn't the Joker do more than just shoot Barbara Gordon? Anyway, it's good to see the WB has five watchable shows on its sked.

Five? Angel, Smallville, BoP...

I was OK with the show. I hope they find the time to develop the characters and their relationships a little more, though. I'm fine with the continuity changes, as long as we get a good show out of it.

I taped it last night, and am looking forward to watching it... but Huntress? As Bat-man's daughter? Talk about completely screwing up the comic continuity...
I do not know if I like the idea of a decent comic being twisted into a "hot chicks who fight crime" series... but I will give it a chance. Why no "Spoiler" (the character) if they were going with that theme.
Is it true Mark Hammill is in it as the Joker? Bad ass.....

Nope. Just going back to DC's Pre-Crisis continuity, where Helena was Bruce Wayne's and Selena Kyle's daughter.

And to answer Teppan-Yaki's question, Joker also stripped Barbara, took pictures of her in lewd (and bleeding) poses and sent them to Commissioner Gordon.

Angel, Smallville, Everwood, BoP and JKX (Jamie Kennedy Experiment). Of course, four out of the five are actually doing well. JKX, on the other hand...

Thanks for the reset, MMM... I knew there was extra sinister things that the Joker did, I just forgot what. And to answer Pool-Boy's question: the voice is Mark Hamill's, and it was damn cool to hear that.

The Joker (and Batman) won't be regular characters. And while Hamill did the voice, I have to say, the costumes for both Joker and Batman were awful. Batgirl's (from the flashbacks) was OK. Joker didn't even have the big crazy grin! Bah.

And yes, the continuity is wacky. But look what they did with Smallville. And that show is awesome. it's not about the minute details, it's about the characters' interactions.

It's why your favorite book will never be made into a perfect movie: because books and movies are different mediums. Accept it, and enjoy each for their own merits.

[Oh, and there are some minute details left in there which are quite pleasing to the comic book dorks out there.]

From Marc Berman of Mediaweek:

"Despite minimal viewership after four telecasts, The WB has given a full season order to new sitcom Do Over as well as also picking up Reba lead-out Greetings From Tucson for the remainder of the season. Sophomore sitcom Off Centre, which moved from Sunday to Thursday this season, wasn't as lucky and is expected to depart after the November sweeps."

Damn, I'm good. =)

I enjoyed the premiere, and I'm by no means a comic book guy. I might keep watching, but it feels like one of those shows I'll lose track of eventually.
