While watching Smackdown last night I noticed something about Micheal Cole and Tazz's commentary that I really enjoyed. During several matches Cole would ask Tazz about a particular move or what a person is feeling or thinking while in the ring. Although it was subtle, I thought that it went a long way in giving credibility and relevance to not only the match going on, but also to Cole and Tazz.
I remember fondly watching old matches from MSG with Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse the Body where they would often break character and discuss the match going on as former wrestlers and it was often far more entertaining for me than when they were in character.

Exactly. And his enjoyment & appreciation of what we're all watching enhances our enjoyment & appreciation. Which (it occurs to me now that I've just typed it) is probably exactly the job description of a good colour commentator. Tazz & Cole are doing an excellent job together.

It'd be even better when Cole hits puberty and his voice goes down a couple of levels. I wouldn't say he's good yet -- he still says some unbelievably stupid things -- but I'll admit he's a little better.
