I'm just happy they opened up the show with the Blue Oyster Cult Behind the Music parody.

That was a classic sketch.

They should've aired the "Get out of the Shed" sketch. Also the "Jeopardy" they showed wasn't the funniest.

I counted three skits in which Jimmy Fallon broke character.

I thought it was a pretty good show, overall. What are they going to do without Ferrell? Have Fallon (aka the guy who cracks up during every show; I thought he was a professional actor) be the star? SNL really hasn't been all that great lately. The only bright spot was Ferrell.

I agree about Fallon, although I think calling him a "professional actor" is a term even he would not want to ascribe to.

I don't agree about Ferrell being the only bright spot, only because Amy Poehler has been amazing on the show. She went through SNL so fast and is now the number one woman on the show (and I like Rachel and Maya).

Hey, anyone who's seen Upright Citizens Brigade has seen just how good she can be. Good to see her getting this shot and making the most of it.

This is a press release concerning the new season of SNL (including new castmembers), from NBC:

NBCS EMMY WINNING SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE KICKS OFF 28th SEASON PREMIERE WITH MATT DAMON AND BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND AND TWO NEW PERFORMERS

NEW YORK -- October 2, 2002 -- In addition to welcoming Oscar winner Matt Damon and legendary musical guest Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, SNL will debut two new performers on its season premiere October 5 (NBC, 11:30 pm - 1:00 am ET) which comes hot on the heels of the shows reason Emmy victory for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy-Variety Series.

Fred Armisen and Will Forte will join the cast as featured players on the Emmy Award winning comedy-variety series.

Armisen has brought his comedy and cast of characters to Late Night with Conan OBrien, the Chicago Comedy Festival and programs on British television. He has also appeared on HBOs music show Reverb and in his own eponymous interstitial series on HBO Zone.

Forte comes to SNL from LAs improv-sketch theater The Groundlings where current castmembers Chris Kattan, Chris Parnell and Maya Rudolph got their start. Fortes experience has been predominantly behind the camera -- serving as producer on That 70s Show and as story editor for 3rd Rock from the Sun and Action as well as working as a writer for Late Show with David Letterman and the MTV Movie Awards.

Returning to the show is the repertory cast of Rachel Dratch, Jimmy Fallon, Emmy winner Tina Fey, Darrell Hammond, Chris Kattan, Tracy Morgan, Chris Parnell, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph and Horatio Sanz as well as featured players Dean Edwards, Seth Meyers and Jeff Richards.

Wait a minute... a ninety-minute show called "The Best of Will Ferrell?"

How did they fill the other eighty-eight minutes?

Fah!

Anyway, if the show turns into "The Jimmy Fallon Show", they've got troubles. He's not terrible - he's good on the news and I like a few of his sketches (although that's usually because of the always-awesome Horatio Sanz), but he's not really the type of guy you can build around like Ferrell was.

That said, Tracy Morgan is horribly underused - the D'Lo Brown of SNL. Everything he says cracks me up - and I will never get tired of "Astronaut Jones". Never.

Darrell Hammond is the best impressionist the show's ever had. Anyone can do a good Clinton - he does a good Tom Ridge.

Chris Parnell is the best straight man on television.

Tina Fey - enough said.

In fact, the female cast is entirely awesome, especially now that Ana Gasteyer left the show. I have a friend who's college roommate was an intern on SNL, and she said that, while everyone was really down to earth and extremely cool, Ana was a huge fucking bitch who had some misbegotten diva thing happening. (And she said everyone really does always pick on Chris Kattan.)

Jeff Richards... Okay, he sucks hard, but, for the most part, they've still got a formidable cast.

I couldn't agree more, Tracy Morgan is hilarious. Astronaut Jones totally rules. But my favorite Morgan bit is "Brian Fellow's Safari Planet". Holy Crap that stuff is hilarious! Like when Jimmy Fallon had the talking parrot and it was freaking out Brian Fellow. And the Rock came out with the tarantula. Brian Fellow: "That is one fuzzy bug!"

Edit: Back on topic: one of my favorite Ferrel bits ever was when he was the guitar playing Satan who tried to give Garth Brooks a hit song in exchange for his Soul.

The greatest thing ever associated with Will Ferrell was the Celebrity Jeopardy skits. By the way, just a quick question, what do you guys think was the best Celebrity Jeopardy? The best one, I think, was the one with Burt Reynolds, Connery, and Steweart.

The best Celebrity Jeopardy was the one with David Duchonvy as Jeff Goldblum, Connery, and Minnie Driver. Lots of classic lines in that one: "Its a friggin hammer", and "The show has reached a new low."

Also the one with Martin Short as Jerry Lewis was pretty funny as well.

Oh, God... that guy's TERRIBLE. I don't know if anyone's seen his HBO Zone stuff, but it's pretty stupid. The guy can be kinda funny at times, but it's almost like what the Tom Green Show would be like if instead of being incredibly obnoxious, he could say fuck.

However, he's STILL not as unfunny as Bubba the Love Sponge... I mean, does he have to pay stations to pick up his show?

Hey, here's the $50,000 question about the new SNL season - Who's gonna play Dubya?

(My money's on Parnell, seeing as Darrell Hammond plays Cheney and Ridge and Ashcroft and Gore and, well, pretty much everyone else they might want to interact with Bush.)

Thank you Dr. Jay! That Fred guy is so unfunny on HBO Zone. I will give him a chance on SNL, but I'm not holding my breath.

In terms of George W, I hope that one of the new cast members can fill that role. If not, then I will also go with Parnell.

The Celebrity Jeopardy I like was last season's episode with Reese as Anne Heche.

I loved that VH1 Storyteller's skit too.
"I wrote this next song after I killed a drifter to get an erection."
"Gary and I have gone on for hours on how much we hate foreigners, right Gary?" "Leave me out of this man." "NO, I WILL LEAVE YOU IN!!!"
All of the most memorable characters from the past couple of years, IMO, have been Farrel's characters.

I even liked the replacement panting model guy. "You all wouldn't know true beauty if it was in the parking lot waiting to give you gonarrhea (sp?). Which it will be..."

Okay, this is bothering me. When Clinton was elected, and for the first few years of his term, Phil Hartman played him on SNL. Towards the end of his term, he was Darrell Hammond. However, there was at least one season between Hartman and Hammond being in the cast. Who the hell played Clinton then? Someone had to, right?
