| #1 Posted on 21.9.02 1339.42 Reposted on: 21.9.09 1342.54 | This is odd...Rolling Stone gives out exactly NO five-star ratings to an album since 1992 (R.E.M's Automatic for the People), but in the last two years, the distinction has gone to Love & Theft (Bob Dylan), Goddess in the Doorway (Mick Jagger), The Rising (Bruce Springsteen) and now Sea Change (Beck).
Perhaps since they're gradually turning into Maxim anyway, RS doesn't feel so stingy about the rave reviews.
Edited to add that I've got 450 posts! Huzzah!

The Grammys are an even bigger sham than anything RS does - what the Hell is the difference between a 'record' and an 'album', anyway? Anyone recall the Jethro Tull incident? The nebulous time constraints for releases that qualify for awards? Now *there* is a bunch that needs to stop handing out awards, pronto. | drjayphd

As I understand it:
Album = whole album, goes to the band. Record = song, goes to the band. Song = song, goes to the songwriter.
I may be overgeneralizing here, but I think that's it. | Big Bad
