But alas, no such luck. Then reality set it and I remembered I was watching WWE. Still an entertaining show though. Nice to hear Cole learned to call it the Shining Wizard after hearing Tazz say it all the time too. Promote this thread! | | It's False

I also like how they're calling the Shining Wizard. I guess it makes us even with Japan for them calling the Rock Bottom. | Chumpstain

I have seen him try for it on Velocity before though, and he actually hit it once or twice. I remember the match, the no-name guy he was fighting just spiked him with a brainbuster, so there was a lot of head-dropping to go around! | Ubermonkeys

for a WWE-ized version: see guerrero, eddie. he basically does a straight-up vertical suplex, but with a quick snapping motion when he brings you down. the announcers call it a brain buster, but it really doesn't look that different from a normal vertical suplex.
chavo (if i'm not mistaken) used the brain buster as a finisher during some point in wcw. jushin liger hits killer brain busters (from what i've seen), and eddie *can* hit killer ones if he's allowed to. tajiri used the brain buster as a finish for awhile in ecw, as well.
and i remember that styles - hurricane match (i went out of my way to watch that episode of jakked because HOT DAMN IT'S STYLES AND HELMS). it was my first viewing of styles, and also the first time i had seen the vertebreaker used while watching an entire match. i had seen clips, but i didn't watch wcw. unfortunately, i couldn't get my vcr working in time to tape it =(.

THE VERTEBREAKER
There are several ways to set up this move, but the common one (which I believe is done regularly by Megumi Kudo; any joshi superfan backing, here?):
The attacker holds the opponent as if in the final stage of Christian's Unprettier: standing and facing away, with the opponent behind them, bent forward, head ducked against the back of the attacker's waist, with both of the attacker's arms laced backwards, wrapped around the opponent's.
The attacker, still holding the arms, rotates both he and his opponent by turning both sets of arms in a half-circle; in other words, rotating his body in place, culminating as the attacker is now bent down at the waist, his head between the opponent's legs, with said opponent facing away from him, and the attacker's arms now aimed upwards, still interlaced with the opponent's.
While keeping arms locked the entire time, the attacker slowly stands up, pushing his opponent up with his neck and shoulders, and pulling down on his arms to pull him down his back. This results in the attacker standing up, with the opponent now back-to-back with him, upside-down, with his head at the attacker's waist level, held up by the attacker's arms as they remain locked around his.
The impact comes, then, as the attacker abruptly drops down onto his ass while holding the armlock.
This can result in one of several predicaments, depending on how stiff the attempt is. In some cases, the armlock is held the entire time and both men are in perfect position--which can result in the opponent landing squarely atop his head. More commonly, just as the attacker is falling, he loosens the armlock, thus causing the opponent to intead land on his neck and shoulders, folding him up in a rather impressive visual.
