Next Tuesday.. anyone else psyched? With the almighty JOSS writing the season premiere, even if it is a Dawn-centric episode... it should rule all. The spoilers I've read.. I'm really psyched about this season.

Especially if the SMG until S9 rumors are true.

I am, and I'm not; I'm almost like spf is in a different thread -- I won't be upset if I miss parts of it (esp. since the wife can let me know). Myself? I'm stoked for Angel and BoP. Anything with at least some sense of continuity with Barbara Gordon and the Joker gets brownie points.

I'm excited about Buffy but I'm more pysched about "Smallvile" and "Birds of Prey".

And I agree with Teppan-Yaki,I'm happy "Birds of Prey" went with the comic continuity than go off on a totally different tangent.

I'm also excited about the season premiere of Buffy, as well as Smallville, mostly because Tuesday is by far the most boring day of the week, nothing ever happens on Tuesdays, but when they're showing new episodes that's one of the best two hours of the week.

I plan on giving Haunted a shot, then, watching Smallville occassionally on the Sunday repeats(unless the football's good, of course) :)

I respectfully disagree with you, after watching 8 Simple Rules and Life w/Bonnie last night on ABC. Both are actually good comedies (and on ABC, no less), and a viable counter to the Scooby Gang.

I'm excited as long as Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) comes back this season. I rewatched the season finale last night, and the show is just so much better when he is around.

I'm really looking forward to this season, of course, I'm pretty sad that it'll probably be the last I'll watch in earnest (I have little to no intrest in Dawn, Vampire Slayer). I found Angel to be the far superior show last season...Until the final episode, where Buffy rocked the house, and Angel fell really flat.

Things I'm looking forward to:

Return of the baddies!
Faith!
We may finally learn from what Anya's fear of bunnies stems.
Finally some character developement for Dawn
Tony Head!
Faith!
The return of a lighter hearted atmosphere.
More Clem
Umm...Faith!

What I'm not:

I'm really not overly intreged yet with this "Spike with a Soul" storyline. Angel has one. That's what makes him special, that's what makes him unique. To dilute that really does an injustice to his character. I do realize that it's two different shows, but it IS the same universe. I'll wait and see I guess, but I think that James Marsters is trying to hold David Boreanaz down.

The return to high school and the upping of importance of Dawn. Michelle Trachtenberg is an ok actress, but she really doesn't shine with the current cast, and I don't think that'll change any this season.

Marti Noxon as Exec Producer. Despite being one of her vocal critics, I was willing to give her a shot last year, and she really blew it. The season was really a downer and had some really poor writing, and that's not something one would or should expect from the show.

With Spike and Buffy effectively broken up, Xander and Anya done for and Buffy's HLA gone, who's going to provide the doomed romance? It's a staple of the show, but all the characters have explored pretty much all their options...Unless it's time for Dawn/Clem...

Anyway...Yeah. Good season ahead (I hope).

Buffy/Smallville definitely make TV on tuesday alot better. Honestly, I felt Buffy was underrated last season...the characters were well developed and The "Nerds of Doom" were great as the "comedy heel jobbers". Also...Angel is overrated. JMO.

Typically I'd agree with you, as I wasn't a huge huge Angel fan until last season (though I did watch it due to the Buffy connection.

The early parts of the season were rather iffy, but the end of the season with Wesley's slow spiral into semi-madness, Holtz' really well thought (and drawn) out plan for revenge, and the kid who played Connor was a stellar actor, I just thought it clicked on so many levels that Buffy didn't last year. Until the last episode when they shot it all to hell. I still will contend that Angel was the better show last year. Plus I got a 6 degrees of Amy Acker thing going on which is kind of funny.

The problem I had with Buffy last year was that the character development front was so the opposite of what the characters were that it started to chip away at the structure of said characters to the the point that they weren't really good anymore. Buffy's inability to get a grip on herself or her life, even after her afterdeath had had time to sink in. Willow's sudden sink into the black arts and the subsequent storylines which really made no sense given character history. Spike's acting heelish all of the sudden after two years as a babyface and then turning and re-turning over the span of a few episodes. Giles' stupid reasons for leaving (I get why Tony Head had to leave, but a Slayer still needs a Watcher, no matter how old, no?). Xander's devolvement from lovable oaf to asshole. I get Anya's actions, and Dawn really didn't do a whole lot. So tell me why after last season I'm supposed to like any of these people again?

That said, the stooges were REALLY well done, and "Once More With Feeling" and "Tabula Rasa" were brilliant episodes. But the other ones left me feeling kind of empty like the entertainment value of the show was getting lost in all these heavy handed moral messages that Marti was trying to pass down.

I definitely have no love for Marti Noxon. The show has been on a steady decline since she took over. But I think they really felt the fan backlash last season & will work very hard to win us back.

As for Dawnie the Vampire Slayer, I don't care who stars on the show as long as Tony Head comes back & sings for me. He's delicious.

Is that the plan? Dawn to become the slayer? How long is Sarah Michelle signed on for? Is this (rumored to be) her last season?

Sory I may be a bit ignorant about the backstage stories here, but man o man this show is a big time favorite of mine but I will be OUT if they try to go on without Buffy. I'd rather watch Willow the Vampire Slayer.

There's a huge rumor going around, started by.. someone with Good Day Live, that Sarah had signed through S9, at 18 eps a season.

There was a lot of speculation, that if this was her last season, the Buffy franchise would continue, most likely with Dawn being called as the Slayer(of course, that would mean Faith would have to die, and that would make me sad).

I think, with the opening of the new Sunnydale High, that Dawn's character will get a lot of airtime this season. And while I hope that the new scene doesn't take away from the core of the show, it will be nice to see Dawn actually grow some character traits, besides being whiny and a klepto.

BTW, add me as one of Noxom's critics. If there's B/S'ness this year, I might just have to go on a shooting rampage through Mutant Enemy.
(image removed)

If there's B/X'ness, then I'll be a happy Buffy fanatic

And, one more BTW, Angel, starting with 'Waiting in the Wings'(the ballerina episode) through the end of the year, it was the best show on TV, bar non.

My predictions... Xander/Buffy, Anya/Spike.

Too bad K5 not only cancelled SmackDown, they cancelled Buffy too. Anyone know the season premieres epsidoe name so I can go Kazaa hunting next Wednesday? No spoilers please.

Not necessarily.

Remember, Buffy died at the end of Season 7, too. So there's a possibility of 3 Slayers out there now.

Joss, Marti, and other writers have said numerous times the slayer lineage goes through Faith, since Buffy had already died in Prophecy Girl.

    The Episode is entitled "Lessons".

By the way, One thing I forgot to mention about Angel is that I can't help but love a show, which at one point featured one of it's main characters having an arguement with a talking cheeseburger.

That my friends is some good television.

And that was some great motherfucking CGI. "Who dares disturb my slumber!"

Thanks for the episode name.
