| #1 Posted on 16.9.02 2047.34 Reposted on: 16.9.09 2047.51 | Holy shit, what HAPPENED to the writers? Did they finally hit bottom last week? So far, the first 45 minutes of Raw featured:
* Bischoff in another classic segment to open. * HHH in an interview that DIDN'T BORE ME TO TEARS. I almost knocked over furniture laughing at RVD's semi-witty repartee. * Jerry Lawler CALLED A WRESTLING MOVE. IN A MATCH, no less. It was a missile dropkick, by the way. * Even more impressive, after the Booker T/Test match, LAWLER said "You could tell these guys used to be tag partners, they knew each other's moves!" Continuity and intelligent comments from him, the Great Satan At the Desk? * Speaking of him, are they doing an angle about his commentary or Bischoff's treatment of women? No complaints from me. (Oh, Bischoff. But they might be able to drag Lawler in. )
(And who the hell is the IOW spokesperson? Where have I seen her before? (EDIT AT 10:48 EASTERN: Oh, okay. That answers that. ))

I was VERY bored by the HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH promo, and when RVD started talking him up I thought we had the Dusty Effect in full force, where we need to have everyone talk about how great HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH is. I was pleasantly relieved when he did the spit joke.
Lawler is better tonight, that's for sure.

| #8 Posted on 16.9.02 2223.59 Reposted on: 16.9.09 2223.59 | Basic booking flaws were evident tonight. For example, if you have Bisch talking to start the show, then don't do the starting and then have Trips come out to talk. Since the Flair Rico match was the 1st contest, what harm would have come from having Flair and Rico come out after the opening credits, then, after the commercial break, have Trips/RVD do their thing. Makes as much sense as anything.
Other than that, strong outing for RAW. Best in weeks. Um, if Booker T can get a decent match out of test why is he not in the main event picture? Moot point I guess. And one more thing. Any steam Rico gets off beating Flair is gone when Trips refers to him as unworthy of the old man's jock. And any steam Jeff Hardy has left after jobbing to everyone and their stepbrother for the last 3 months is gone when a "wounded animal" in Trips beats him with a move that hasn't worked since Brutus Beefcake was on SUperstars. It was just so you couldn't see Rico.
And, yeah, that was a pretty good show tonight. The feminist protesters, I feared, were going to be another "WWE on current events" right-wing reactionary bullshit storyline, and I don't think I was ever so happy to see Steph in my life. (Although, I had a whole bunch of jokes about how the scripts are being written by John Ashcroft jerking off into a Barely Legal magazine that I can't use now. Oh, wait, I did.)

Molly, Trish and Victoria should have been the ones giving Eric the beatdown. Then the fans will chant "Triple Threat!!!" and Victoria and Molly, knowing Shane Douglas from the indies, flashes the sign, and show Trish how to do it too. Then all would be good.
Ah well, at least Billy and Chuck got payback. They channeled Adrian Street with that beatdown.
Rico wins, all right.

Ohhhhhhh leave the "Republicans molest children" one-liners in the politics forum. John Ashcroft does not hold the book in the WWE. (But if he did, would we see Tiger Ali Singh brought back to feud with Sgt. Slaughter?) | Aphrodites Reflection

| #12 Posted on 16.9.02 2242.00 Reposted on: 16.9.09 2242.17 | Actually, the Sleeper hold worked just last week, when Triple H used it to beat Spike Dudley. Now I realize it was a squash, and it was Spike Dudley, but they are showing a building of the move as a part of Triple H's arsenal, maybe as his version of a submission, since he doesn't really have a submission hold.
You may not like the sleeper, or think that it is a good way to end a match, but give credit where it is due, it was used to end the match last week and then tonight, and I will take a guess that we will see it more often from triple H in the future. Every single signature/finisher move had to be built over time, and this is no different.
My other thoughts were that this RAW was a definate improvement. I liked Jericho getting back into things and winning the IC title. I liked the IOW bit and Steph's revenge, although I would caution the WWE from doing this too often, it needs to be a big surprise.
Bubba Dudley did a pretty good job of fitting into Bradshaw's vacated spot against the Un-Americans. Booker T's interview was not one of his best, with all the terrible test references, but it was a minor part of the overall show.
All in all a nice comeback from last week, though I really wish that Lawler had been in the ring with the IOW to get his turn too.

| #13 Posted on 16.9.02 2244.59 Reposted on: 16.9.09 2245.17 | LIVE from beautiful Denver Colorado, it's the Triple-H show! Starring Triple H! With special guests...Eric Bischoff! Buh Buh Ray Dudley! Rob Van Dam! and MY GIRLFRIEND as Stephanie McMahon!
You know what would have been perfect? If RVD had a microphone in hand as he stood over HHH at the end and said "Dude, don't bogart the show."
Sarcasm aside, I liked the show overall. You knew Steph had to be somewhere in that women's group. But she really had to reach to get the crowd in her favor, didn't she.
Why do you put the I-C belt on Jericho? To free up Rob to win another.
RVD kind of reminds me of John Cena in cutting his promos. In other words, he needs help.
I suppose the women's match (which for those who asked was "postponed" for the IOW segment, or so claimed by JR during the broadcast) will be on the PPV now? I was actually considering getting that until Bischoff issued his challenge, because frankly, I don't want to see EITHER of the proposed scenarios. You know what would be the coolest thing in the world? If Steph's response to Bischoff on Smackdown was "No thanks. Bye."

Not sure what there was more of tonight: HHH on Raw, or Keith pissing and moaning about HHH on Raw. I wonder if he's just doing it as an ironic commentary on how annoying things can be when repeated constantly. Is he even capable of enjoying any WWE free TV anymore? I thought it was a pretty good, solid show. I didn't even mind all the HHH, because it makes sense. He's the champ (of the show, at least), and doesn't it make sense to build the show around, you know, the CHAMP? | deadbeater

| #19 Posted on 17.9.02 0030.20 Reposted on: 17.9.09 0030.38 | I actually liked the show this week, much better than last week's edition. I guess because I had anticipated the show tonight. Bischoff's promo at the start of the show was what I had expected, pure gold.
HHH during almost every backstage promo is no surprise, his lady was in the house. But they weren't wasteful promo's. They pushed him as a jerk, pissed off Bubba Ray, put down his former idol, and kept me interested. Seeing him what, 5 times, before his actual match unnerved me a bit, but the show kept me interested.
His promo at the top of the show just made me think about last week when asteroidboy said something to the extent of how funny it would be if HHH went on this long as diatribe and RVD interrupted him so say something like "Dude, calm down and let's fight." That had me laughing all weekend. And tonight when RVD came out, he not only did that, but made me bust a gut with the spitting water bit, the anger and him growling while mocking HHH. That was worth the show itself. | chazerizer

And being as thats exactly what the WWE wanted me to think, I'd say they did a pretty good job. Although I really couldn't stop laughing during RVDs promo. What hyjinks. He looked like he was going to pull out a joint right there in the ring.
Oh, and didn't someone say that they would love to see HHH get interupted this week? Merry Christmas, love the Creative Team. |
