...starting at midnight!

I'm gonna tape it and then (probably) never watch the tapes - hopefully that'll be enough to keep me from actually spending money on the DVD set until they get remaindered and I can pick 'em up on the cheap.

I'm getting the DVD, only because they have an alternate ending to the season finale.

I avoided talking about the show here and/or on the old board because I missed some key episodes and kind of fell out of the loop, but the marathon was a good chance to strategically pick up on most of the stuff I missed the first time through. What a great show.

Despite getting knocked out and smashed in the face a lot, I have to say that 24 himself is one of the most effective action heroes I've seen in a while, TV or otherwise, considering he's working with a pretty incompetent crew. I can't think of even a movie action hero who piled up a body count like he does over the course of the day.

His two best moments were probably my two favorite episodes - the 10 AM episode where he's in the limo trying to get the info out of Cofell with the whole thing about using a wet rag to de-line his stomach. That's a new one. The other was the later episode (6 or 7 PM?) when Lou Diamond Phillips shows up as DeSalvo and 24 comes up with the plan to use the facilities crew of the super-secret DoD jail to make it look like they have more men and temporarily hold off Drazen's attack. They managed to ratchet up tension there even more than the rest of the episodes.

There were certainly a few downpoints - Terri's amnesia was too much, as was Kim getting kidnapped for the third time in one day. I also still couldn't figure out where Milo disappeared to when early evening rolled aroud. Did they have to let him go home because he'd get time and a half if he kept working? But by that time, they'd already sent boring Alberta Green away and replaced her with George Mason, who was pretty darn cool and, even if he was incompetent like the rest of them, he was at least funny and TV-realistic in his gruff but loveable "Oh, 24, I just can't say no to your schemes!" kind of way.

Hopper's accent was awful. I kinda wish they'd left Zeljko Ivanek as the chief Drazen bad guy, because he's a better actor and I figure his superior accent may even be real. Plus, he was Ed Danvers, damn it! At the very least, they could have brought in some other cool former "Homicide" regular. I bet Andre Braugher could have made us believe that he was a Drazen. Dennis Haysbert, on the other hand, was really great as Senator Palmer. Now there's a guy who knows how to play royally pissed.

So anyway, I don't know if I can coax anyone who watched the whole thing the first time through to talk about this again or remember what happened, but it was worth a shot. If only to find someone else who believes, like I do, that Soulpatch Tony actually un-grew facial hair as the day went on. I swear, the soulpatch was almost gone in the last hour.
