'Opie and Anthony "cancelled" Infinity spokesperson Dana McClintock has confirmed to RBR that, in the wake of their sex-in-the-St. Patrick's cathedral stunt, the Westwood One-syndicated duo have been cancelled. Details will follow shortly from an Infinity release. McClintock also confirms WJFK-FM/WNEW-FM/WYSP-FM GM Ken Stevens and PD/OM Jeremy Coleman have "not" been fired, as is beginning to spread across cyberspace'

Why? It's not like Imus is a real threat to Stern in any way. And you do realize that Imus appeals to a completely different demographic than Stern, right? I listen to Imus(so does CRZ, I think.)
Edit After Reading CRZ's Comments: His stuff from the ranch this summer has been awesome, Chris. Of course that's when he's not on vacation. :)

| #7 Posted on 22.8.02 1958.58 Reposted on: 22.8.09 1959.02 | O & A were not Stern wanna-bes. I liked O&A, and I can't stand Stern. Two different shows which both just happened to involve lots of naked women and vulgarity.
I first listened to O & A when they came to NY, and I was one of those people who liked the station for the music and wanted it back. Then they aired some bit where some lady pimped her book about sex, and I turned off the station that was that. Then, two years later, my girlfriend gets me to start listening to them, and I begrudgingly become a fan. I *should* be happy they got fired for what they did. It was wrong and I never liked those sort of antics. But DAMMIT! I enjoyed their show. I just hope the station doesn't lose their license, as Ferrell and Ron & Fez kick ass.
This whole thing just stinks.
Edit: By the way, the contest was called Sex for Sam, not Sex for Sale. And it wasn't a producer who got arrested.

| #10 Posted on 22.8.02 2228.20 Reposted on: 22.8.09 2229.05 | The simple fact is that if the couple had been caught having sex in a laundromat, or in a public park, or in a taxicab, the show would be continuing as scheduled.
Had the stunt been "Let's send a couple into a crowded cathedral and WATCH THE STUNNED REACTIONS!", I would have much less sympathy. What this was was a monumental lack of judgement on the part of two contestants and their spotter/station representative, screwing up the basic premise of the contest (get in, get out, don't flash anyone who's unwilling or offendable); it was not an intentional attempt to offend the Catholic community. Not that that matters now, of course.
I pulled my local Infinity station (WYSP, Philly) off my radio presets today. If they won't support the people who are getting them ratings and making them money, they don't get my support in return. The local sports-talk station and my CD player will hold me for a while.

I'm not defending their stunt, but just cuz some of you didn't like the show is no reason to gloat that they are gone. There's a lot of stuff about wrestling that we may or may not like that pushes certain limits and draws certain criticisms that would cause certain people to act the same way if the WWE went under. But we still know that wrestling is (usually) worth watching and has its own personal value. O & A were the same way. | Teppan-Yaki

What I miss most is Brandmeier, Matthews, Dahl, McMurray, etc. Ok -- so it's parts of WCKG's line-up, but having B&T your only syndie radio morning show out here hurts. :( | Jaguar

Up here in the Boston area, BCN shitcanned them for a lame prank in which they reported the mayor of Boston died in a car accident.
If anyone listned daily to O&A, do you know if they spent any time recently discussing the news of their former punching bag at WBCN Mark Rearento getting arrested on charges of sex with minors?

| #16 Posted on 23.8.02 0353.07 Reposted on: 23.8.09 0356.27 | Most of talk radio sucks. I hate the wacky guys heck most of syndie guys are awful wacky or not. THe formula all the same, people laughing at eachothers bad jokes, my favourite the made up drama to grab attention. It's all so lame
But one team stood out as the best syndie radio I've ever heard in my life. It was about 5 - 7 years ago it was called "the John and Ken show" in my time zone it was from the evenings, but they were out of California and they ruled so much, like radio I haven't heard before or since.
They became local (California) mornings about 6 years ago so I couldn't catch them (I'm not in California). But recently changed station (still in California) and went to afternoons (evenings for me) on KFI and I go out of my way if I'm online to listen to them over they net, they are that good.
They are just so straight forward and tell it how it is. No gimmicks, no forced arguments. One guy (john) is a bit over the top but you don't feel like he's putting on a show, the other guy is more laid back and plays off John well. Hard to explain just a great radio team.
They had defense lawyer on during the Van Dam girl murder trail recently. And they asked "You wouldn't be able to defend this man knowing her did it" and the lawyer starts talking about "its his job and and lawyer must do his best to get his client off" and of course John freaks out on him..lol

Oh yeah. They were all over that story -- complete with digging up an old sound bite where they essentially PREDICTED it would happen, years ago.
Oh well. Each to their own -- they're certainly an acquired taste. I enjoyed their show quite a bit (and wouldn't have found Jim Norton or Stephen Lynch if not for them), but thought Don and Mike were the answer to the question "What happens when a Morning Zoo has a midlife crisis?"
