PETA is like a bad religion, and that's exactly the way the people inside PETA treat it. If you're not one of them, you're against them, and all other ways of thought are wrong. And trying to throw in the trash argument with the anti-fishing policy is just wrong. You pack it in, you pack it out. That should be the rule in all state parks, and if they institute heavy fines and such and keep an eye on it, the trash levels will go down. So instead of paying more Parks Service people to keep people from fishing, they should pay them to keep people from littering.

The kicker is that NOW and the feminazis got pissed and accused PETA of exploiting women.

Reading from their website what they ostensibly do and don't believe in, I can see a few good points. For example, I'm against product testing on animals, but I'm not necessarily against testing drugs on animals within reason.
I figure that if animals can be humanely killed for food, that's fine with me. I don't intend to give up meat anytime soon. After all--

| #8 Posted on 20.8.02 1801.47 Reposted on: 20.8.09 1821.26 | This makes me nuts...if the PETA people would actually go and interview most fishermen, rather than judge all of us for the acts of a few morons they'd find something out.
By and large, we're very strong proponents of humane treatment of animals, very strongly involved in preserving nature, and extremely active in educating our children about nature.
I recently took my daughter fishing for the first time, and she not only had a blast with her father, but learned how to identify different varieties of fish and turtles. She learned that we only keep what we're going to eat. She learned that putting the small ones back insures that there will be more fish in the future. She also learned the proper way to unhook a small fish without killing them.
PETA will only be happy when everyone eats tofu, and all wild areas are off limits to humans (to insure that humans can NEVER possibly interact with nature).
Just my opinion.

Actually, that implies that PETA still gives a damn about anything. Trust me, at this point, they're only worried about getting publicity for themselves - and this is coming from a really liberal democrat and an animal rights advocate. | cranlsn

"Animal rights advocate"...and there in lies the difference. I can agree with you...I don't think any animal should be needlessly tortured or held in captivity for no apparent reason. (I do support MOST zoos however as a great deal of them are trying to save some species from extinction.) I also see no need for product testing, but medical studies that may benefit all of mankind are justifiable in my book, so long as the animals are treated humanely.
PETA thinks that animals=humans, which just doesn't play for me.
And that's coming from a Conservative Republican...if on nothing else Fuzzy, it's nice to see that spotting insanity knows no political boundaries.

HERE HERE.
Speaking as someone with a little bit of a bias(I work for the shelter here), I can tell you that most humane societies/associations are run on shoestring budgets. The one I work for (www.ahanm.org) is one of the better off ones in the country, but so many can barely afford to turn on the lights during the day. | Grimis

I love animals, dogs, cats, small gerbils and so on.But there are animals who are pets and animals to be eaten.
My mom had a PETA-freak who lived next to her for a little while, say about 2 months. That women had a problem with EVERYTHING!!!!!
She had problems with other neighbors, she basically wanted the whole neighborhood to follow her lifestyle. She didn't like when we grilled out, when we had our dog,Chico, chained up so he didn't get run over, she bitched out my 14-year old step-brother for all the stuff the whole neighborhood done.
After she moved but she didn't go quietly, she sent my mom a letter basically spouting PETA propaganda.
That falls under the neighbor from hell category. | MoeGates

| #15 Posted on 21.8.02 1423.27 Reposted on: 21.8.09 1427.21 | | The best way to deal with people like your former neighbor is to say ´´every time you talk to me or my family, we´re having a big, juicy steak for dinner.´´ This approach general works with every preachy-type person that won´t shut up. Usually you have to say you´ll donate money to a group that they hate, but sometimes (like with PETA) there´s a different variation that´s obvious and more effective. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
