| #1 Posted on 11.8.02 1752.15 Reposted on: 11.8.09 1757.12 | So, I thought of this idea for a heel character. Not sure if it could plausibly be pulled off, but I think it's kinda cool. If it'd work, it could be used to create a new mega-heel, or it could be used as a good midcard role. When I thought of it, I was picturing John Cena for the role.
During a Cena match...
Tazz: Ya know, Cole, this kid Cena, ya could tell he's taking his wrestling seriously. Everytime I see him in the back, he's always watching old tapes. He's always studying old matches...trying to perfect his craft. This kid wants to learn...he's gonna a huge star, Cole, I'm tellin' ya.
What Tazz doesn't know is that Cena isn't watching old tapes to perfect his wrestling craft. He's actually studying classic heel beatdowns from years past. We learn that he's come to idolize guys like Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase and Ric Flair (to use "modern" era heels).
And then, just like the serial killer in Copycat, Cena reenacts the most vicious heel attacks from the past. He could crush someone's larynx with the ringbell. He could shove $100 bills down someone's throat. He could handcuff someone to a guard rail and go to town on his ribs with a nightstick. He could even spray cologne in someone's eyes. I know NWA history, but for some unknown reason, these are the only attacks that are coming to mind right now.
Of course, it would take the commentators to connect the dots for the audience and actually recognize that he's being a "copycat."
I dunno, it's just an idea. Promote this thread! | | SerWolfe

“He just jabbed a spike through Goldust’s eye! What in heck’s name is this kid’s problem?” -Michael Cole
“Fire in the eyes! Fire in the eyes! Booker T will never be the same!” -Jerry Lawler
And finally…Cena locks Rock in a dumpster and pushes it off the stage. When asked who unleashed the monster inside John Cena, we find out someone suggested the “history repeats itself” idea. Cena says, “I have a mentor.” And then his mentor comes out.
“It was me Rocky…It was me, all along!” -Vince McMahon
And THAT would be the perfect end to a copycat angle. Moral of the story is: Great idea…But Vince would screw it up if it got over.

| #6 Posted on 12.8.02 1620.20 Reposted on: 12.8.09 1620.58 | The idea does have some merit... but not on a main event level I do not think. That sort of thing would get tiresome eventually. But it WOULD satisfy the nostalgia need the fans have, withough shoving a Hogan down out throats as champion. And with Vince owning WCW (and probably ECW) intellectual property, they would have a wealth of footage to have "Copycat" steal. Plus then the announcers could show a recap of the original heel beatdown later, or on Velocity or whatever. I like it... I like John Cena for it, but what about Steven Richards? Frustrated at his failures with the RTC and beyond, deciding to go with what works. He has a history with being a Copycat (Chyna suit... ewwww) so it fits his personality.... | Parts Unknown

I guess Richards is never going to overcome the RTC angle, is he? Everything suggested for him involves his alleged frustration that RTC failed.
On the Copycat angle - I would pay anything to see John Cena put on a black glove, pull a king cobra out of a bag and let it latch onto Triple H's arm as The Game is tied up in the ropes. Oh yes. | Pool-Boy

RTC was such a great idea that was so mishandled by the writers that it killed it. So S.R. does not need to overcome the gimmick, he needs to use it... | SmooveK

Are you putting down Dancin' Stevie, "the King of Swing"? He had style, he had class; he could almost whip some ass.
