This is impressive. 60 of 61 negative reviews for "The Master of Disguise."

I think the 61st guy is also the dentist who recommends sugared gum to his patients who chew gum.

Just reading the quotes they pull from the reviews is really funny.

I think it's pretty funny that 13 million dollars worth of people had to see this despite the warnings.

I figure a few people went to see this:

-Austin Powers was sold out, and they had to see something involving an ex SNL cast member this weekend.

-The same people who saw the Croc Hunter movie, because they HAD to see if it was as bad as it looks

-The mentally challenged, who wanted a film they could relate to.

-Dana Carvey's friends and family, who bought 10 tix to every showing all week long.

-The same people who can't get enough of Michael Winslow's funny sounds.

That should account for the otherwise inexplicable success of the film.

And yet, there are movies on that site (like "Baby Geniuses") which have *no* positive reviews at all. Granted, they don't have 61 reviews on file, but that may be because some of those movies are no longer recent.

As a pretentious indie video store owner, I spend a lot of time tooling around review websites and Rotten Tomatoes. That's probably the worst percentage of the year so far (Even worse than Kung Pow!). Also, I've never heard of the guy or the site that made the one positive review.

Could it be that the studio pulled a Sony on this movie just so it wouldn't go entirely unpraised? I love it when they do stuff like that.

The one that gave it the good review does look like a legit (low-budget) site. Of course, even THAT guy said that "the humor is childish, the script is a disaster, and
the direction is a mess." I am really tempted to start repeating all of these magnificent quotes in these reviews, but I guess we can all read. 62 out of 63 now, btw.

Heh... kinda like one of the positive reviews of XXX that called it "expertly-crafted trash"?

rottentomatoes is one of my favourite sites

Well XXX actually got a positive review in my favourite local fishwrap, and is about 50/50 on RT

I'm a Dava Carvey fan so I'll might see it when it comes on video. BTW it's 66 out of 67 now and went down from 2% to 1% liking it. I think that guy probably wants to take his vote back when he's the ONLY reviewer that liked it. It reminds me when you take a open vote on something by raising your hand and someone asks "WHo wants to do it this way" and you raise your hand look around and see no one else is and try quickly to put your hand down =)

I actually thought that ridiculous surfing movie "Blue Crush" that keeps playing during all my favourite shows (including WWE.. which I think says something about the programs I watch..LOL) was going to give "Master of Disguise" a run for it's money in badness. The ads look pointless and idiotic and had me thinking "How wasn't this straight to video?"... But the small amount of reviews i've seen of this have been positive. So go figure?

Well, FWIW in another sign of what seems to be his slow descent into madness since the passing of Gene Siskel, Roger Ebert actually gave XXX 3 1/2 stars. Now I like Vin Diesel, and Pitch Black was a hell of a good movie, and he even helped make Boiler Room watchable, but when you consider that he gave Lord of the Rings 3 stars, and this 3.5, I truly think he's either losing his mind or just trying to play with Roeper's mind somehow.
