That sound you heard was what was left of the Jets' fanbase screaming in agony after realizing that they're stuck with Mark Sanchez for another season. Garrard was their only shot at getting rid of him now because there's no way Rex Ryan would feed Geno Smith to the wolves without a veteran backup (and that's assuming that he even wants to take the chance of starting Smith now), and the Jets can't afford to sign anyone else if they have to absorb the massive cap hit of a Sanchez cut. No. They would have found another excuse to cut him.
The Jets are just dumb enough to start Geno Smith around Week 4 after Sanchez falls on his face for most of September. They're going to wind up ruining everybody on that roster. | Texas Kelly

I didn't want to bring Tebow up, but this is just salt in the wound for him after the fact. The fact that Sanchez is going to keep his job and massive paycheck while Tebow will likely be out of football entirely this season because no one will give him the chance he earned with the playoff win is one of the biggest injustices in sports that I've ever seen.

Rex won't resign, but he'd be totally justified in doing so (unlike, say, Nick Saban). The Jets might be lucky to win 2 games this season and it's all because of the mismanagement they've had in the owner's box and the front office. I just hope other teams realize that and give Rex another chance as a head coach after he inevitably gets fired after this coming season because he couldn't do the impossible. | TheBucsFan

| #5 Posted on 15.5.13 2052.56 Reposted on: 15.5.20 2054.46 | What constitutes a "chance" exactly? He was on the Jets' roster for a year, did the coaches all take bathroom breaks when he got reps in practice or something? In what way is it not the case that Tebow had a chance with the Jets and failed to impress on the coaches the idea that he was worth playing at quarterback in real-game situations? What is the reason, in your version of events, that Tim Tebow didn't get to start at quarterback for the Jets? | Zeruel

The Jets are a comedy of errors like I haven't seen in football in quite some time and possibly ever. Sure, there have been bungling teams in the past (even the recent past), but none of them have been thrown in our face by the sports media as much as this team.
To whoever thinks Rex Ryan wouldn't be crazy enough to start Geno Smith in Week 1: please don't challenge a Ryan's craziness.
