Gotta say this is the most fun I've had with a ccmic in years. So many fun little moments like "Peter" returning to college because Ock refuses not to be recognized as a doctor.

I honestly don't care if Peter ever comes back and returns to the status quo.

And that is what I am afraid of. Spiderman has now become the 90s anti-hero, but since the internet loves Slott for some reason, no one wants to call him on it.

I don't care who writes it. I couldn't tell you anything that Slott has done. But I like the story they're telling.

When Spidey shot the guy a few issues ago I actually really went "WOAH" and I felt uncomfortable.
Then seeing how he dealt with Cardiac (yet in the end helping out) was also interesting.
He did the right thing but not really for the right reasons.
I don't feel it makes him the 90's anti-hero. He's not the cool heel. I don't want to cheer his actions. But Ock's actions and thoughts do get a chuckle because he's actually right in so many ways, and does do things smarter than Peter would/could.

Is it perfect? Nope. In a way there's too much ghost-Peter.
Scribbling a spider/octopus? Meh.
But little things like Ock getting lucky there was no smart Avengers to analyze his brain patterns are what makes this click for me.

So....with Superior Spider-man #9 coming out yesterday.
What are YOUR thoughts?

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Doc went inside his own head to fight Peter and get rid of his memories/presence once and for all.
It was an interesting battle and at the end Doc 'wins' when Peter realizes he was not better than Doc, and he gives up.
Peter Parker, including his memories, are now gone.
Doc Ock is the only Person in the body.

I am totally on board for this. Of course there's always the cynical side that says "it won't last" (it won't) but they have once again changed the status quo. But what are the ramifications?
I assume that now that things in his head are different this will lead to more fall-out...

Without the memories/knowledge, I'd reckon Doc will be outed much sooner than he realizes.

The problem I have with this is that they keep blowing key plot points for shock factor. They have been telling us for weeks that Superior #9 would piss us off. Completely took the fun out of the battle because I already how it was going to end.

I have enjoyed the book so far even if Ock's redemption has been wobbly at best. I am looking forward to seeing how they handle the next chapter in this story.

So what do you guys think the long term end game for all this is? Obviously Peter will go back to being Spidey, but at this point I don't WANT to see Ock go back to being a villain. I think they have a chance to tell a great story of redemption here. I see it going one of a few ways:

1. Peter takes back over, Ock goes back to being a villain.
2. Peter takes back over after Ock sacrifices himself and dies.
3. Peter takes back over and Ock becomes a hero or anti-hero.

The problem with #1 and 3 is where does Ock get a body since his old one is dead?

It wouldn't be the first time that Peter Parker was cloned.

I'm really curious to see how long they stick this out. It seems obvious that they will have PP back 100% in time for ASM2

I don't see them wrapping this up within a few more issues, but I can bet it's going to be much more interesting to watch Doc Ock try to fumble his way through Peter's life without Peter's memories to back him up.

They have shifted Carly Coopers suspicions to the back burner. I'd expect that she will play a huge role in the eventual outing of the good doctor.

Back in the glorious days of the 80's, Marvel made Sandman a good guy. I liked it a lot, it was a good change for the character and a surprising character progression that you never see in comics. A character looking back at his life and saying "I've done some terrible things and I wanna do some good to make up for it." The Thing and Spidey help him out. He got a presidential pardon for all his crimes and was even accepted into the Avengers as a reservist. It was all really good storytelling.

It was a wonderful thing until Howard Fucking Mackie had to go and fuck it all up. Fuck you 90's Marvel!

Anyway, Sandman was a thief and a thug, but wasn't really into killing people. His crimes were forgivable. Same goes for Eddie Brock with the Venom suit because the suit is what caused most of the damage, mentally taking over Brock and giving his hatred for Parker more to feed on. Eddie wasn't really a bad guy, he just hated that Peter Parker kept getting better pictures than him. He went a little crazy and the alien suit just made it all worse.

Doc Oc however, is just a bad, bad man. It may be fun to see him attempt to be a 'better person' but it'll never work because he has no redeeming value. When this is all over, he'll be just as bad or worse than before this storyline started or they'll kill him off for a few years. Either way, just enjoy the ride, it's entertaining.

Venom eating Brains can be blamed more on the symbiote than on Eddie Brock. Brock was a broken and weak man that gave into the symbiote's urges much too easily. He has been shown to be on the path of redemption since; although he still comes across as well meaning but unstable.

Of course, that being said you don't see Flash Thompson running around eating Brains in the Venom suit; so take that for what its worth.

Did Venom actually eat brains, or did that myth perpetuate because of the action figure that said, "I'm gonna eat your brain!"?

Also, I think there's some sort of device keeping the symbiote docile for Flash.

I know Ultimate Venom has eaten people. Then again, so did Ultimate Hulk (at first)

This is what I found on a website;
http://forums.comicbookresources.com/archive/index.php/t-409544.html

During the Venom: The Hunger miniseries (which is excellent, by the way), Brock's symbiote develops a chemical imbalance that compels it to actually eat brains. Brock isn't having any of that, so it separates from him and goes out hunting for grey matter, and does indeed actually eat a bunch of brains. Eventually, Brock finds that he can control the suit's cravings with chocolate.
---
It doesnt develop a chemical imbalance it what it does, it feeds of some brain stuff and Eddie's brain ran out of the stuff because the Symbiote ate it all. Later in the book some scientist found out that he could replace or create more of that chemical by eating chocolate.

But before that Venom threaten to eat body parts all the time but never did. He started eating body parts when symbiote was being mind-controlled during Thunderbolts. After that story ended them Marvel writers for some reason liked the idea of Venom actually eating body parts so they continued on but they never provided an explanation what was up with all the eating

Also, there's this on Wikipedia.

Back to Ock. Yes he's a psychopath, but he has also been exposed to Peter's life experiences. He no longer only has the frame of reference of his own abusive upbringing. He's been exposed to a life of love and friendship.

It is tricky, but I think there's a great story there with the right writing.

That was true but now that he has erased all of Peter's memories from his mind he no longer has that "experience" to fall back on. Ock is truly on his own now with nothing to keep him in check. He's convinced that he can be the better Hero but he doesn't understand the concept of self sacrifice that was so central to Peter Parker's character. He's arrogant and selfish. Those traits will be his eventual downfall.

They pretty much wrote themselves into a giant hole with this. You can't say to me, Doc Ock is a good human being. You just can't. I have seen him ransom the world with posion that would kill everyone. Cerebus brought up the Sandman face turn. Doc Ock threatened to murder a family that Sandman was living with to go back to the Sinister Six. When Sandman turned on them, Ock turned him into glass and straight up murdered him. Sandman as does everyone in comics gets got better, but still Ock is a murder and no how much he loves Aunt May, he is still a cold blooded killer with a God Complex. No half ass redemption story is going to change that and if they do, they are writing the character wrong.
