The fact that Ain't It Cool News seem to go all in, on bashing a film that could get the Best Picture Nod, is pretty funny. I used to like Harry's reviews, but his Toy Story 3 Review pretty much showed that he is a spoiled kid who is over sentimental about everything. Its not his Batman, well fuck him, besides the Animated Series one, this is pretty damn close to being my Batman.

I thought the movie was good but I couldn't get deep because all the shots of Pittsburgh were too much of a mindfreak. You can't have chase scenes in places I get stuck in traffic. You can't roll a nuclear bomb by my grandma's apartment building. And you can't CGI my neighborhood into the ocean, wtf.

Felt the same about all the shots of New York. I'd gotten used to Gotham as Chicago like it was in Begins and Dark Knight. Now, Gotham is a super city made up of three islands, Manhattan, Chicago, and Pittsburgh linked together by bridges Bane bombed.

There was a distracting amount of L.A. too. I take walks at lunch by where Catwoman cleared the tunnel debris.

I loved Knowles' review, mostly for the same reasons that Johnny O did. Just an amazing fan boy freak out for no reason. Superheroes are a very adaptive medium. Whoever is sitting at the wheel gets to form the pot. I like Nolan's Bane better than any other Bane I have read/seen. It's light years better than a musclebound invalid who carries around a teddy bear. I loved this film. IMO, it is not better than Dark Knight, but it is a different movie with a much different narrative, feel, and tone. I love the progression of Bruce Wayne throughout the series. Considering all that he has been through since first falling in to that well, the ending makes complete sense. This is not a trilogy about Batman being the ultimate crime fighter. It shows his motivations and emotions and created a very real version of the character and a distinct separation between Bruce and Bats.

Knowles has not been the same since his back got messed up. He hated Inception but loved GI Joe.

His Toy Story 3 would have been the greatest troll ever had it been a work. The talkbacks were some of the most venomous things I've seen on the nets.

I get some of what he is saying, yeah there could be a great Batman movie with more fantastic elements. This wasn't "my" Batman either (Arkham City gets closer than anything), but I still liked Nolan's trilogy. He tried to do something more than just make a superhero movie. He went against the grain and got ACTORS instead of fan casting.

This brought me closer to the film. I spent a good chunk of my childhood in the Steel City and yet, I was pained when the bridges fell and Heinz field got wrecked. I always view Pittsburgh has my city, so I was with Bruce the entire way when he was seeing the city get wrecked. I doubt any movie will affect me this way again.

Yeah, Harry needs to also figure out how to write a fucking review without quadruple spacing. God, that annoys the fuck out of me. Once you knew he hated Inception, you knew the knives would be out for this. Joe the Kid is the only reviewer I like and trust. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Okay, my fellow Ws. I need a referendum/explanation on this issue.

I saw the movie in a regular theater (i.e., not IMAX). Over and over again I keep reading people say that if you saw the movie in IMAX you had no problem understanding Bane, but if you saw it in a regular theater you probably couldn't understand him.

I saw it with my wife. She had a hard time understanding him. Lots of non-IMAX-theater goers said they had a hard time understanding him. Me? I *LOVED* his voice. Loved, loved, loved it. I still hear his voice in my head. It was awe-inspriing. I want him to read me bedtime stories. I had absolutely ZERO problem understanding him. I caught every single syllable he uttered.

To me Bane sounded like an Irish version of Morgan Freeman talking closely (but not too closely!) into a microphone. So what am I missing here? What was so hard to understand? I don't have particularly great hearing, so why am I not experiencing this like so many others?

I liked it, but for me the order goes TDK, Begins, this one. I felt there were too many new characters introduced, that it was just too long, and it lacked humor. Even TDK seemed more upbeat than this film to me. Remember in Begins when Batman is about to start roof-jumping with the Tumbler and he backs into a parking space that says "Compacts Only"? Little things like that. The most humorous part of this film was probably unintentional; Bale screaming "WHERE'S THE TRIGGER?" like a complete mental patient. I can't believe Nolan didn't dial that back. Bane also didn't work for me, I couldn't make out a couple lines and really, he talked too much. He was such a drama queen. I get they wanted something more intellectual than the character was in the source material, but he seemed like a delusional Shakespearean actor. I also didn't like Talia dying thinking she'd won.

Having said all that, I actually enjoyed the movie. It may sound like I didn't because all that stuff I just bitched about really bugged me. But it was a fantastic cast and it was visually incredible as all the films are. And there will never be better Batman films. I just felt this was the least fun of the bunch.

Ok just saw it finally. I actually had low expectations going in to this one and felt it just couldn't top TDK. I'm here to say it doesn't really matter which film was better. Nolan's trilogy feels less like three individual movies now and more like one of my favorite writers penning several issues of Batman. I just accept the three films overall as a progressive saga (like LotR) rather than individual stories now. A marathon is scheduled when this hits dvd.

I think it's ok not to use spoiler indicators now, just in case: SPOILERS BELOW

I'm not sure if this film has a anti-Occupy/ pro-1% message. The implication certainly was that the wealthy were false icons for justice such as Harvey Dent, and many of them were killed or drowned in Gotham's waters. Bane's motivations on a surface level spoke of reversing the power balance between the lower class and the upper class in Gotham, but he released and commanded hired escaped prisoners. Prisoners who took over Gotham through forceful but organized chaos.

The city wasn't inherited by the finacially despondent struggling middle class or lower class common citizen but by those with the guns. Bane was more about physical strength rather than political or financial strength as money didn't truly motivate him nor did he fear the guy trying to buy Wayne Enterprises. If anything this film made me think of rebel factions in various parts of the Republic of Congo killing anything that opposes them and ruling with fear until another group runs that rebel faction out.

Joseph-Gordon Levitt was awesome in the film. I saw behind the scenes pictures of him for this film several months back and just thought "He's gonna somehow be Nolan's version of Robin. Naw, Nolan said he's never putting Robin in the film." Then I had the same feeling again when he told Bruce he figured out who he was when he saw him at the orphanage as a kid. Bravo Clerks, bravo.

I'm sure had Heath not died after TDK he would of been Bane's judge rather than Johnathan Crane. It just felt more like a Joker scene than a Scarecrow scene.

Great film, it feels good to be a comic book fan these days. Good luck to the poor idiot who not only has to Chris Nolan's awesome trilogy with the next Batman film(s), but to any directors who want to follow this, Whedon's Avengers, and the New Spider-Man film.

While it's easy to draw comparisons to the Occupy movement, the film was written (and principal photography began) before the existence of Occupy Wall Street. Though, to be fair, the sentiment behind the movement has existed just about forever.

Bale was in Colorado yesterday to meet with victims, first responders and family members. Good on him. Warner Brothers also made a donation to the victims fund as well.

Didn't they film at Occupy at one point? I thought I heard saw that. As for Joker. I think if Ledger was alive, I don't know if we would have gotten this picture. Yet, this is so final, I don't wonder if they would have had Joker helping Gordon only to betray them in the end or had Bane just outright kill him to make Bane, a giant threat in the middle of the picture. Its hard to say, but I do think we would have gotten close to the same movie maybe just 15 minutes longer. That was a pretty perfect cameo for Scarecrow and believable.

I actually love his very first line the most: "Or perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane?"

Everything about his character is in that line delivery. The weird, otherworldly quality of it echoing clear as a bell from under the hood; the cockiness; the amusement at people so obviously inferior to him; the reptilian intelligence. Following it up with the hood being whipped of to reveal a close-up of his horrible facial apparatus just cements him as a villain of a stature not yet seen in the series.

I, too, loved Bane's voice. "Do you feel in charge right now?"

I wish the movie wasn't so PG13 and always have to move the camera away when Bane kills... reminded me of AvP and The Hunger Games.

I thought so too. Everybody cracked up when he showed up again. Something about him being a secondary troublemaking loser in all three films, especially with C.Murphy's daffy portrayal, is really funny.

Saw it last night, and I have to admit that I have the same thoughts as most of you on how it stacks up to the rest of the trilogy. I avoided this thread mostly, but I do wish I had read some of it so that I really would have watched that first movie again. Great tie-ins to that first film. Spoilers coming in 3, 2, 1...

So the reveal of Talia was not spoiled for me because of the comics (as I don't read them), but by the Arkham City game. Once Ra's shows up to Bruce, I knew what was happening. Still, they filmed it in such a way that it was awesome to see play out.

I loved the tie-in with Harvey Dent. That was enough to offset any misgivings about the rest of The Dark Knight movie being ignored in Rises. Bane reading off the Commissioner Gordon speech made it especially poignant.

I tihnk you mean especially amazing. Bane reading that speech with the kind of disdain William Regal reserves for ruffians and windowlickers was so, so good.
