Live from Phoenix ...
This turned out to be one of the best shows I've been to in a long time! (And that's in spite of having seats way higher than I usually get -- I don't recall how that happened -- & having to calibrate the obnoxious sign-wavers in front of me.)

Had some warm-up stuff, incuding a promo among Ryder, Santino & Sandow backstage (Eh.), &the match with RTruth & Kofi vs Hunico & Camacho. A backstage interview/promo with Jericho, when asked about his strategy said, "The strategy is to win, dummy." in a totally face-ish fashion. (Awesome.) And the first pass at the backstage promo by Bryan with Josh, about AJ being his "future fiance" (which they replayed later.)

In the SD MITB match, it seemed like they were doing a strategy of having only a couple of guys working at a time, while the others were mostly over at the foot of the ramp variously "recovering". I think that was a really good plan, keeping things cleaner (& probably safer) in ring. My favourite funny spot was Ziggler clambering over Tensai on the horizontal ladder to get back into the ring. Big face bump by Kidd, & big-air back bump by Ziggler. Nice finish with Ziggler screwing over Christian (who I'm pretty sure ran the entire thing.) Fun match!

I'm not an ADR fan at all, so my take was that Sheamus did the best he could. I will continue to say that Ricardo sells the hell out of what he gets to do! Didn't anticipate the Ziggler run-in to "almost" cash in the case -- that was fun. And they did pretty well conveying the concept that the bell didn't ring before the Brogue kick, so it didn't count as a cash-in.

Darren Young & Titus O'Neil vs Epico & Primo was fine. I don't hate the premise of AW on a modern-day bullhorn -- I just with he had something more entertaining to say most of the time.

Bryan vs. Punk started very good, & kept getting better. Unlike others, I didn't need quite that much just beating on each other with objects, but they did it well! Very glad that AJ didn't end up being partisan, & actually liked her taking away some of the weapons from each of the guys. (After the show, Punk tweeted looking for a gym in Vegas for today -- wonder if he went. :-) )

Whole lot of "Goldberg" chants for Ryback! (Did he take a back bump at any point in the match? He's not so impressive at anything that isn't a strength move, but it's still better than the original "yup-yup-yup" gimmick.) Hawkins & Reks did very well working around him, & it was entertaining.

Women's match -- I could watch more of Layla & Beth.

Raw MITB was excellent fun. The whole concept of burying Big Show under the huge pile of ladders was excellent! Lots of awesome stuff from Jericho, including swinging from the briefcase cable, & hanging onto Cena with a (not so effective) sleeper hold as John totters up & down the ladder. The super-sized ladder is always hilarious, but lets them do cool stuff with more stability. Jericho definitely the star of this one.

Good, fun show!

Meanwhile, we get the next Royal Rumble as well! That's cool. However, I'm not so convinced about having the tickets on sale, with the password, right after the show. (They made the announcement at the top of the show, but it wasn't clear when the on-sale opened.) I suppose that was great for anybody in the arena with a smart phone, who jumped on ticketmaster in realtime. I had to wait til I got back to the house to grab mine, & it was kinda ugly. I don't think I'm thrilled about the people who were there live, supporting the product, ending up at a disadvantage. Dunno.

That would have been just before Arizona achieved statehood, right? ;-)

It's been several years sine we've been close to really selling out the building. I was surprised how much they were still advertising on the radio, even yesterday. I'd guess it was still probably 15,000, which is good. Phoenix is still doing as well or better than most of the other venues I've been to.

They did not go on sale until 8 AZ time. When they made the announcement, I texted my wife at home to get the tickets, and she said she was unable to until 8 (although she did get seats then).

Did I see bearded Giants pitcher Brian Wilson in the front row- or was that just a really good look-alike?
